Richardson suburb just 14 miles from Dallas
World-renowned novelist Mark Twain once remarked, "I was born modest, but it didn't last." The humorist would likely be pleased that this Richardson neighborhood, park and elementary school are all named in his honor. While Mark Twain is located in the city of Richardson, locals say the biggest draw to this suburban community is its proximity to the job opportunities and culture in the metropolis of Dallas. "It's conveniently located near Highway 75, which is very well utilized," says Debra Lustberg-Papert, a Realtor with Ebby Halliday Realtors. "You can live in the neighborhood and work in Dallas. It's a great location for anyone really wanting access to Dallas without the city hustle." Living less than 15 miles from Dallas gives Mark Twain residents a distinct advantage, but the neighborhood also has perks. It offers highly rated schools and renovated homes at a lower price point than surrounding communities.

Those looking to move to this Richardson community will find a wealth of 1960s limewashed and exposed brick ranch homes, some featuring garages. "Garages are important here," Lustberg-Papert says. "We get a lot of hailstorms in the spring and they can be destructive." These homes usually hover around 1,500 square feet and rest on compact, tidy lots lined with mature oak and elm trees. Prices for these homes typically range between $300,000 and $425,000. Those seeking multifamily community amenities will find townhouses costing around $485,000. "Homes will typically sell within 30 days if they're priced right and in good condition," Lustberg-Papert says.

"It's a diverse area," Lustberg-Papert says. "You have a lot of different cultures there, and that's reflected in the cuisine." Residents can spend a weekend evening at the popular spot Class Axe Throwing. The event venue offers personalized axe-throwing instruction and allows patrons to bring their own beer. For those seeking entertainment on a broader scale, Dallas is a short drive from the community. "Dallas is our hub for entertainment," Lustberg-Papert says.
