A neighborhood situated along a prominent Texas highway

Along Texas State Highway 99 about 30 miles west of Houston, the streets of the Harvest Green neighborhood are lined with single-family homes. Much of the neighborhood is outlined by a grassy strip that defines its boundary, and the community primarily consists of homes interspersed with man-made bodies of water, some with fountains sending sprays arcing skyward. “It’s a very prominent development,” says Pinky Pirani, owner and team leader with the B&P Team at Keller Williams Southwest. “This belt of Grand Parkway is one of the fastest-growing commercial belts in Texas,” she says, referring to Highway 99 by its commonly known name. “The convenience, location and the freeway have always added an advantage to the community.” Adding to the convenience of the area, an array of chain restaurants, local eateries and even a mall sit just across Grand Parkway. Harvest Green offers residents proximity to Houston while, at the same time, providing a slightly slower pace of life than its big-city neighbor.

Stone and brick exteriors on single-family homes

Homes in Harvest Green often sit close together, with little space on the sides between the properties. Architectural styles here usually consist of modern designs with Craftsman inspiration, often with stone or brick exteriors. Prices tend to be higher than in other nearby communities, typically ranging from around $550,000 to about $800,000 for a typical four- or five-bedroom house. At the higher end of the pricing spectrum are sprawling estate-like homes that cost closer to $1 million, and some that approach the $2 million mark. The neighborhood has a CAP Index Crime Score of 2 out of 10, less than the national average of 4.

Highly rated schools sit within the neighborhood

Students here are served by the Fort Bend Independent School District, and all three levels of schooling are within the neighborhood. James C. Neill Elementary School sits in northern Harvest Green and receives an A-minus from Niche, while James Bowie Middle School is located near the southern boundary and has an A. William B. Travis High School is situated in northern Harvest Green and also garners an A rating. All three schools are named after notable military officers and figures from the Texas Revolution.

Quick routes to downtown Houston

Texas State Highway 99 runs along the eastern boundary of Harvest Green and encircles most of the greater Houston area. Though final construction estimates are not yet available, the highway is planned to eventually be a ring road, running around the entire city; it currently runs from Richmond’s southeastern boundary north and crosses Highway 290, then turns to the east and continues on, eventually turning south again and terminating in Baytown. The closest on-ramp is less than 2 miles north and east from central Harvest Green. “99 is very convenient,” says Pirani, who has lived in the area since 2019. “The Westpark Tollway is like seven minutes from Harvest Green. A lot of people are using Westpark, and Highway 90 is also very close. All these major streets are very close to the community.” Downtown Houston is around 30 miles east, primarily by way of the Westpark Tollway, which sits about 4 miles north of the neighborhood. Interstate 69 is less than 10 miles south and also provides a pathway to Houston. George Bush Intercontinental Airport is over 40 miles northwest of Harvest Green.

Shopping just across the Grand Parkway

Harvest Green residents have a few options for restaurants within the neighborhood. Messina Hof Harvest Green Winery & Kitchen pours glasses of their award-winning Texas wines while also serving up brunch, lunch and dinner, while Jus+Bol Superfood Bar has health-food bowls and juices. Across the Grand Parkway, residents can find dozens of restaurants and an array of retail stops in and around the Aliana Shopping Center. “Shopping is very close,” Pirani says. “They just opened Costco a few months ago, and then they have an H-E-B, Target and everything about two to three minutes from the entrance. It’s a huge commercial belt with so many restaurants. They have everything. If you think about it, they have it.” Other dining options in the area include Vietnamese fare at Pho Saigon, breakfast dishes at First Watch and Tex-Mex at the Red River Cantina.

Lifting weights or having pool days at the Farmhouse

The Farmhouse at Harvest Green serves as the primary recreational spot for residents. The complex features a pool, splash pad, playground, fitness areas and docks on a small lake. “It has a lot of events,” Pirani says of the neighborhood. “There are a lot of parks. They also have a fishing pier, a dog park, a volleyball court, a tennis court and lots of walking trails.” Harvest Green is also considered an “agrihood,” and locals can join the Farm Club to rent their own plot of land and grow crops and vegetables. In southwestern Harvest Green, the Harvest Green Tennis & Volleyball Courts accommodate more sports, and anglers can access the 49-acre Figure Four Lake just west of the neighborhood.

Events on the community calendar

The Harvest Green community puts on events throughout the annual calendar for residents. “It’s a very diverse community; so many cultures live here,” Pirani says. “They have a big Diwali event in the clubhouse and an Eid party after Ramadan. There’s a farmers market every Saturday inside the community.” Locals can peruse neighbors’ wares at garage sales, gather for food at wood-fired pizza nights or celebrate holidays with various events. One neighborhood event in particular – the Fall Festival – is very popular. “People from outside the community come to it,” she says. “That’s one of the biggest events they have.”
