Canyon Crest is a charming neighborhood between Downtown Riverside and the Sycamore Canyon. Six separate land annexations created the community during the second half of the 20th century. Hilly terrain shaped that development and has given residents stunning vistas of the surrounding area.
The hilly terrain creates a diverse streetscape presenting excellent vistas and quaint streets winding under tall, leafy oak and sycamore trees. Canyon Crest also features the immensely popular Craftsman style, known for its emphasis on simple exterior designs and homey interior layouts. Homes are often within a short bike or car ride from excellent schools and parks, and it is common for area houses to have ample yard space and garages included on their list of amenities. Regarding prices, Canyon Crest homes on average around $647,500 with some homes costing as much as $1.1 million the further south you go.
Canyon Crest is served by the Riverside Unified School District, attending primary schools like Castle View Elementary from kindergarten through sixth grade. Students move on to intermediate and secondary schools like Matthew Gage Middle and Polytechnic High School. The latter high school is the oldest in the entire city and has graduated musicians like Glenn Ross Campbell and athletes for MLB teams such as the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Milwaukee Brewers.
Palm and Sycamore trees are typical foliage along both Canyon Creek's streets as well as its parks. Castle View Park has over 27 acres of walking paths and three acres developed as playgrounds for residents to enjoy. Andulka Park is a brand new park home to 30 acres of athletic fields, including a tennis complex, light basketball and volleyball courts, baseball fields, concession facilities, a walking/jogging trail and a native habitat area. Sycamore Canyon Park forms the neighborhood's eastern border, with miles of walking trails that connect to some neighborhood streets. Spring-time flower blooms flood the canyon with vibrant colors and enhance the expansive views from the park's ridgeline trails.
Residents have an abundance of retail and dining venues available at the Canyon Crest Towne Center. Regional grocery stores like Ralphs Fresh Fare will keep you stocked with fresh produce and ingredients, brand-name foodstuffs and other household essentials. Start your day with a sweet treat from Donut Tyme, a local donut shop offering an assortment of specialty baked goods and beverages. Stop into Canyon Crest Café while you're there for quality comfort food in a family-owned establishment. Smoke and Fire Social Eatery is a lively social hall serving up a variety of pub and American fare, including Nashville Hot Chicken and savory briskets.
