Foothills scenery in La Sierra Acres

La Sierra Acres is a semirural part of Riverside, which has several neighborhoods that include the name La Sierra, Spanish for "the mountain range." Mountains provide the backdrop to the neighborhood's residential streets, which have sidewalks alongside tall palms and pines, flowering plants and cacti. In the mid-1800s, the area was part of a Mexican land grant. Today, untouched nature remains, and there are numerous outdoor points of interest. "There's all these foothills with trails for biking and hiking. Some people like to run them, and others like to ride their horses on them," says Loren Palmroth, a Realtor with Keller Williams Realty Corona. He began his real estate career as a loan officer and is a finance specialist. The neighborhood is surrounded by nature, but it's not too far from city conveniences. Riverside's downtown is less than 9 miles away.

In the southwest part of the neighborhood, La Sierra Park is about 19 acres and includes playgrounds, ball fields and basketball courts. La Sierra Senior Center and La Sierra Community Center are in separate buildings at the park. "La Sierra Park has a lot of community center activities," Palmroth says. Wildfire risk and mitigation for Riverside

Due to the region's climate, there's a substantial wildfire risk, and the city of Riverside has implemented yearly wildfire mitigation plans. Riverside Public Utilities (RPU) and the Riverside Fire Departments are involved in community outreach and public awareness campaigns. When building and remodeling, ignition-resistant materials can be used for exterior walls, and metal or tile roofing can take the place of wood and shingles. Homes should be stocked with fire tools like extinguishers, shovels and buckets and enough hoses for building coverage. Regular yard maintenance and removal of dead vegetation can help reduce the risk of fire.
