Far west Roanoke residential neighborhood
Ridgewood Park is a neighborhood in the far west of Roanoke that borders Salem. It’s almost 100% residential, with homes from the late 1950s and early 1960s sitting on grassy lots with enough room to toss a ball around or play a backyard soccer game. Houses are spread out in Ridgewood Park, and locals love that they can breathe in fresh mountain air or see the Blue Ridge in pocket vistas.
Picnic areas with tables invite families for gatherings, barbecues, and community events.
Residents enjoy a strong sense of community and friendly neighbors.

Ranch-style, bilevel and Cape Cod homes
Homes in Ridgewood Park sit up and down hilly roads without sidewalks. Mature oak, maple, pine and sycamore trees are the neighborhood’s backdrop, and the Blue Ridge Mountains are visible in pocket vistas. While most properties have driveways, it’s common to see cars parked on the roadside. 1959 is the median year homes were built, and the uniform lot sizes and home styles make this a neighborhood that embodies that era. For between $130,000 and $180,000, potential homebuyers can find a ranch-style or Cape Cod house on less than 1,000 square feet that might need some updating. In the $200,000 to $255,000 range, they can expect ranch-style or bilevel homes on larger lots, typically around 1,500 square feet. “There are a good amount of renters in that area,” says Alla Scott, Sales Associate with Coldwell Banker Townside Realtors, who has sold homes throughout Roanoke. “A lot of investors will buy homes to rent out.”
Ridgewood Forest features charming bi-level houses with unique architectural designs.

Churchgoers plant produce in the community garden, while children can enjoy the playscape, which is filled with fun things to play with, like a volleyball net, tetherball, tunnels and more.

What's happening in downtown Roanoke
The City of Roanoke has a lot of annual events for residents to enjoy. Every Friday in the summer, bands play at Elmwood Park’s First Friday event in downtown Roanoke; the Strawberry Festival is one of the city’s most popular festivities, drawing people from all over for desserts, vendors and live music; and the Blue Ridge Marathon draws runners from all over the country. “With the mountains and challenging course, the marathon is very popular,” Scott says. “People come from all different states.”
Getting around Ridgewood Park
Peters Creek Road runs along the neighborhood’s eastern border and leads to the U.S. Route 460 as well as the U.S. Interstate 581 interchange. Valley Metro buses run along Shenandoah Avenue – which turns into Roanoke Boulevard in Salem. Just outside of the neighborhood, Electric Road connects to U.S. Interstate 81, which Scott says is a draw for locals. “Some people who work for Virginia Tech live in that area,” she says. “It’s not a bad commute.” In case of emergency, Carillion Roanoke Community Hospital is about 6 miles west. For a trip out of the mountains and into the sky, the Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport is about 6 miles northeast.
The major interstates run near the neighborhood connecting it to downtown.
The metro valley buses run throughout both the city of Roanoke and the neighborhood.
