Homey restaurants and nightlife in a walkable neighborhood
North Winton Village has quiet streets, sizable homes and an active community. Still, favorite local restaurants and a vibrant nightlife are within the neighborhood’s commercial corridor along Winton Road. Sidewalks take pedestrians from the local park to the nearest tavern. “There's been a lot of investment by the city and the people that lived there, home values have been going up tremendously, as 14609 is one of the most popular ZIP codes [among homebuyers] in all the United States,” says Brandon Weeks, a North Winton Village resident and Realtor with NORCHAR Real Estate.

Winton Road diners bring out locals from all over the city
North Winton Village’s diverse dining scene makes it a popular destination for folks from surrounding neighborhoods, who often head to Winton Road for a bite. “I grew up there, and my dad had a business there,” says James Blaine, an area local and real estate agent at Howard Hanna Real Estate Services with over 12 years of experience. “It’s a walkable neighborhood with some decent restaurants and bars, like Lucky’s and Winfield Grill. There’s a lot of convenience there.” With roots back to 1933, The Winfield Grill serves guests their signature fish fry, French onion soup and craft cocktails in a spirited atmosphere. Lucky’s serves drinks and small plates, like curried wings and sauteed calamari. Balsam Bagels is a morning favorite, offering breakfast sandwiches, house-made cream cheese and a vegan menu. Winton Road also hosts an Aldi for groceries, and a Wegmans is just a block further south.

Prewar bungalows on tree-lined streets
North Winton Village is mostly made up of single-family homes, typically ranging between $200,000 and $370,000, prices varying by age and square footage. Buyers can find American Foursquares, Cape Cods and bungalows built in the 1920s. Most homes come with modest lawns that neighbors adorn with bright flower beds and shrubs, and mature trees line most streets. The neighborhood is one of the most popular landing spots in the city, as Andrew Hannan, a Rochester local and Realtor with Keller Williams Greater Rochester, says, “It's just been red hot. Almost every first-time homebuyer who comes across my desk that doesn’t have a full family has North Winton Village on their list. It's like that's the place for young professionals.” Homes in the area sell fast, in part due to incentive programs like Greater ROC Relocate, which offers homebuyer grants to remote workers who move to Rochester.

North Winton Village Festival of the Arts and The Lilac Festival
Strong relationships between residents and business owners, fostered by the North Winton Village Neighborhood Association, build community spirit. One of the biggest events organized by the association is the North Winton Village Festival in September, where locals can sample food vendors, listen to live music and browse stands with arts and crafts. Only local events include the Rochester International Jazz Festival, which showcases the performance of more than 1,500 artists over nine days. About 3 miles from the neighborhood, Rochester Lilac Festival is a spring display of Highland Park’s 1,800 blooming lilac bushes on Mother’s Day weekend.

Tryon Park and the "Flower City"
Outdoor enthusiasts can hike the hilly landscape, fish in large creeks and ponds, or discover geocaches in Tryon Park, which harbors 82 undeveloped acres on the western shore of Irondequoit Bay. Farmington Park is a casual city spot to play basketball, tennis or baseball at the neighborhood’s north end. Families can visit Humboldt Recreation Center to find a playground with a spray park, athletic fields, hard courts and a game room. ARTISANworks is a repurposed factory building that is now a popular art gallery and regularly showcases the work of local artists. The Browncroft Rose Garden Park is a green field full of flowering trees just a block away from the buzz of restaurants on Winton Road. Rochester's nickname, the Flower City, is especially fitting for this neighborhood. With 18 community gardens, residents cultivate vegetables and flowers with neighbors.

I love my neighborhood, it is very kind and I know a lot of people. This area of Rochester is better than many areas because of our relationships with each other.

with the high school so close, sometimes fights do occur and there was a problem with high school age kids breaking into a few houses last year. since, the police enforcement has stepped up and there haven't been any more problems.
