Prestine homes near dining

Sunset West is a proud neighborhood with pristine homes and a tight community located in the bustling town of Rocklin, just 21 miles from downtown Sacramento. “It’s a very good-looking neighborhood,” says local property manager Katie Jacobs. “It looks practically brand new because the houses have a really clean aesthetic, and people take a lot of pride in the look of the area.” The neighborhood is known for plenty of greenery, as large trees serve as separators between residential clusters. In addition, Sunset West residents have a median age of 37 years old, which could be attributed to the quick access to shopping and dining options in and around Rocklin.

Rock Creek Plaza and Blue Oaks Town Center

Rock Creek Plaza sits at the intersection of Park Drive and Sunset Boulevard on the east side of the neighborhood. Locals can shop for groceries at Safeway or grab a cup of Joe from Pause Coffee House. Pete’s Restaurant & Brewhouse is the spot for a cold one with classic American fare in a relaxed atmosphere, and Pho Cali has authentic Vietnamese dishes. Blue Oaks Town Center is a strip of retail and restaurants on the neighborhood's west end, off Lonetree Boulevard. Residents head to University of Beer for a brew on the outdoor patio or Lucille’s Smokehouse Bar-B-Que for large servings of smoked meats on metal trays. Westfield Galleria at Roseville is a large mall just southwest of the neighborhood off Highway 65.

Top Rocklin schools

Kids in the area attend the Rocklin Unified School District, with most beginning at either Rock Creek Elementary or Ruhkala Elementary. Both schools hold an A rating on Niche. “We don’t have buses, so all the kids walk together to school,” says Shelly Wentworth, who works at Ruhkula Elementary. “It’s a tight community where all the parents love to volunteer.” Next is Spring View Middle School, which also holds an A Niche rating. Teens living east of Sunset Boulevard will attend Rocklin High, an A-rated school known for its impressive music program with multiple choirs and bands, while students east of Sunset head to Whitney High. Whitney has an A rating on Niche and a strong Air Force Junior ROTC program.

Bowling, movies and more

There’s no shortage of recreational activities in Sunset West. Locals can head to Strikes Unlimited for 10 frames of bowling and more, including an arcade and a full bar. Planet Fitness is where residents head to pump iron, and Hardwood Palace is a basketball facility with eight full courts that hosts tournaments and league play. Cinemark Century Blue Oaks Theaters has the latest Hollywood blockbusters. For fun in the sun, locals can visit Ruhkala Park, which has outdoor basketball hoops, a playground and a sand volleyball court. Kathy Lund Community Park has a splash pad for residents to cool off during the warm summer months and is home to many youth sporting events.

Ranch-homes and condos

The housing styles in Sunset West are as varied as the prices. Ranch-style Mediterranean houses and larger Craftsman homes are found on the same street, starting around $600,000 and ranging to over $900,000. The quiet residential roads have wide sidewalks, making it easy for dog walking, and parking is not an issue as homes have attached garages. With nearly 50% of the residents renting, it’s no surprise that plenty of condos and townhomes are in the area. These begin around $480,000 and range up to $600,000. These communities often feature a pool and private parking lot.

Highway access

With Highway 65 bordering the neighborhood's western edge, residents can easily access Interstate 80. From there, the interstate can take commuters into Sacramento or further north to Lake Tahoe. Rocklin is served by the Placer County Transit Agency, which has bus routes into Sacramento and local fixed routes. These buses have frequent stops along Sunset Boulevard.
