A few blocks north of downtown Rockwall, Texas, lies Caruth Lake, a highly-desirable neighborhood with well-kept 21st-century homes and enviable amenities, including its 62-acre namesake lake at the center of it all. "A unique thing about Caruth Lakes is it has more amenities than any of the other neighboring communities," says Amy Gimmer, a local Rockwall Realtor with Coldwell Banker Realty. "It has lakes stocked with fish, lake trails, playgrounds, pools and great schools. As cliché as it sounds, Caruth Lake is a great place to raise a family. It has everything for every stage of life." Gimmer also notes the strong sense of community in Caruth Lake and Rockwall as a whole. "It has a small-town charm where everybody kind of knows everybody."
In the Caruth Lake area, you'll find primarily Traditional-style brick homes built in the 2000s with a sprinkling of slightly older homes. Home sizes range from around 1,400 to 3,600 square feet, and list prices tend to fall between $300,000 and $590,000, with an average price per square foot of $203. "Caruth Lakes has one of the lowest number of days on the market average in the area," Gimmer says. "That shows its desirability."
Area youngsters attend schools in the highly-rated and sought-after Rockwall Independent School District, including Hays Elementary for pre-kindergarten through sixth grades and Utley Middle for grades seven and eight. Teenagers spend ninth through 12th grades at Rockwall-Heath High School, rated an A by Niche. "Academically and athletically, Rockwell ISD schools stand above the rest," Gimmer says. "And the community is very involved in the athletics. The two rival high schools share a football stadium, and the whole town comes out when they play each other. Homecoming will be a big deal around here this fall."
For some quality outdoor time, take a stroll along the paved path that meanders past the serene waters of Caruth Lake, or hop over to the Caruth Lakes Swim Club to splash in the neighborhood pool or let the kids loose on the community playground. Bring your pup along when you visit nearby Harry Myers Park, where the opportunities for fun are almost endless with its dog park, playgrounds, splash pad, pickle-ball courts and disc golf course. You can also stay active on rainy days with a visit to the J.E.R. Chilton YMCA's fitness center or indoor pool.
Grab a scrumptious chocolate-glazed at The Hole Thing donut shop to refuel after your rainy-day workout. Or, if your growling belly requires something a bit more substantial, head to Wells Cattle Co. in nearby historic downtown Rockwall for a tasty pasture-raised beef burger, like their Hot Ranch-Hand, a 1/3-pound patty topped with jalapenos and pepper-jack cheese. Another excellent downtown spot, perfect for a date night or special occasion, is Bin 303. Housed in a quaint converted Craftsman-style cottage, Bin 303 offers fine Texas cuisine, like wood-fired filet or grilled redfish, and an expansive selection of wines, including four rotating on-tap wines sustainably kept and served straight from the keg. If you prefer a home-cooked meal, stock up on dinner ingredients at the Kroger grocery store, conveniently located on Goliad Street. For thrifting enthusiasts, there's the Rockwall County Helping Hands Thrift Store and Boutique on Williams Street, where you're sure to find a cute outfit or home decor treasure. Whether it's thrifting, dining or lake gazing, there's always something worth your while around Caruth Lake.
