A Rockwall neighborhood known for its community amenities and events

During the balmy days of summer, boats dot Lake Ray Hubbard, locals dine on patios overlooking the water and residents pick fresh Texas produce at the farmers market – these are just a few things Glen Hill has to offer. Located in Rockwall—named for the prehistoric, brick wall-like rock formations found here—Glen Hill is increasingly popular with homebuyers for its budget-friendly homebuying options and the wealth of amenities in Rockwall. "You don't have to leave Rockwall if you don't want to because everything is right there," says Maureen Green, a Regal Realtors broker associate with nearly 40 years of experience. Cori Sharp, a Realtor with Fathom Realty with 30 years of experience working and attending church in Rockwall, agrees. "There's a ton of retail along I-30. It's a trendy area to get errands done or go shopping on the weekends. At the Harbor on Ray Hubbard, there's a marina and some amazing restaurants like Giovanni Italian." According to Sharp, the community has a small-town feel, where many people know each other. "Community events bring people together here. There's a farmers market on the harbor, a homecoming parade, high school sports games and a beautiful Christmas parade."

A mix of midcentury homes and custom luxury homes in Glen Hill

Buyers will find quiet subdivisions lined with well-maintained sidewalks and shady oak trees. There's an array of housing styles available here, as the community started developing in the 1970s and construction continues today. "There's a price point for a lot of different people here. Everything in Texas is getting more expensive, but this area has more affordable areas and lots of new construction," says Sharp. Established ranch-style homes typically cost around $245,000. Colonial and Tudor-inspired New Traditional homes cost between $350,000 and $500,000. The neighborhood's easternmost area has larger, custom-built estates ranging from $900,000 to $1.2 million.

Students attend Rockwall Independent School District

Rochell Elementary serves students in pre-kindergarten through the sixth grade. The school earned an overall A-minus on Niche. Students spend grades seven and eight at Cain Middle before attending Rockwall-Heath High. Both schools earned an overall A on Niche. Rockwall-Heath is known for its baseball team, which has won two state championships and produced five Major League Baseball players. "The schools are absolutely a draw for the area," Green says. "They're excellent." Sharp adds, " Athletics are huge here. They're always contenders in championships. The gymnastics team just placed second in the state."

Get outside at Lake Ray Hubbard or The Park at Foxchase

Outdoor recreation is of major interest to residents here. The Park at Foxchase offers a play area, playground, athletic courts and walking paths around a pond with a fishing pier. Windmill Ridge Park is another community park offering play areas, walking trails and picnic areas. Golf enthusiasts will enjoy the sprawling fairway of Buffalo Creek Golf Club. This par-71 championship course also has an event pavilion for hosting regular gatherings. The gem of the area is Lake Ray Hubbard, a 22,000-acre lake. "The lake is hugely popular," says Sharp. "Boating, swimming, wakeboarding, fishing--you can do all of the above and more. And then you can go dinner at the Harbor after." Residents can access the lake through Chandler's Landing Marina or Terry Park.

Commuting from Glen Hill to Dallas

When residents need to commute or want more of what the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex offers, I-30 is the main connection point. The highway crosses Lake Ray Hubbard, and "Traffic can be touchy on the 30 during rush hour, especially with the construction going on right now." Highway 66 is another major thoroughfare that offers a little less traffic. Via the 30 or the 66, residents are 12 miles from Garland, 25 miles from Dallas and about 45 miles from the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport.
