Outdoor community by the lake
Off the banks of Lake Ray Hubbard sits the community of Northshore. Its scenic views, outdoor activities, highly rated schools and proximity to the rest of Rockwall are the main attractions. "You're close to the lake, schools, historic downtown – just close to everything," says Geoffrey Lyons, a Regal Realtors real estate agent with over five years of experience. Interstate 30 and Highway 66 bridges connect the lakeside neighborhood with the rest of the Metroplex.

Boating and fishing along Lake Hubbard
Outdoor recreation in Northshore starts with Lake Ray Hubbard, one of the largest lakes in the state, spanning over 22,000 acres. A day out on the water may begin at the Lake Ray Hubbard NE Boat Ramp, north of Heroes Memorial Bridge. Anglers can cast a line from the shore at Harbor Bay Marina or Fishing Spot Rockwall near the Interstate 30 bridge. Emerald Bay Park has a peaceful pond surrounded by a walking path with a statue of kids playing on a tree. There's also a playground and a pier on the pond for fishing. Rockwall Golf and Athletic Club has an 18-hole golf course and 18 tennis and pickleball courts.

Mid-century architecture on larger lots
Northshore is filled with brick houses primarily built in the 1980s or 2000s, with large windows that let in natural light. Ranch-style and modern homes typically cost between $360,000 and $500,000, while larger estates with mid-century architecture and multiple stories range from $600,000 to over a million dollars. Many of the houses are built close to each other, but the larger lots offer more privacy, with some areas separated by trees and tall wooden fences. "It's a very comfy place to ride a bicycle, go for a walk or push a stroller," Lyons says. "It is a very scenic and slow pace."

High marks for Northshore schools
Students in Northshore can attend schools in the highly rated Rockwall Independent School District. Virginia Reinhardt Elementary, Herman E Utley Middle and Rockwall High are the schools serving the community. The elementary school is within walking distance and hosts PTA fundraisers and events, including Donuts with Grown Ups. Herman E Utley is the top-ranked middle school in the county, according to Niche. The high school runs a successful athletic program. All three schools receive an A from Niche. "The schools are a big reason people come here," Lyons says. "Most of the extra-curriculars go to state or nationals every year."

Strong praise for Zanata crab dip
Near the Interstate 30 corridor at the neighborhood's southern end is a wide range of restaurants, fast-food joints and shops, including big-box retailers like Target, T.J. Maxx and Best Buy. Further north on Goliad Street, which runs down the center of Northshore, is Zanata, an Italian and Mediterranean restaurant where exposed brick and half barrels decorate the walls. "Zanata has the best crab dip in the world," Lyons says. "It is always a top-notch experience.” Nearby, Lone Star 66 Café serves breakfast staples like eggs, biscuits and gravy. A Walmart Neighborhood Market is a few blocks west on Rusk Street.

Take Heroes Memorial Bridge into Garland
A car is a must in Northshore, as there is no public transportation. Interstate 30 borders the southern half of the neighborhood and crosses the lake straight into downtown Dallas, about 23 miles away. Highway 66, known locally as Heroes Memorial Bridge, is in the center of the neighborhood and runs across the lake directly into downtown Garland, roughly 12 miles west. The cities of Rockwall and Rowlett dedicated the bridge in 2020. "Rockwall County has the highest veteran-per-capita rate in the state, and the bridge's name is to bring awareness to suicide among Veterans and first responders," Lyons says. Baylor Scott & White Emergency Hospital is the nearest hospital off Interstate 30.

Northshore is about 30 miles east of bustling Downtown Dallas.
