Quiet suburban living alongside an airport and university

Lewis University shares its name with the higher education institution it sits alongside. The school is a private Lasallian university known for its aviation program, so Lewis University residents border the campus and the airport. “The campus is beautiful, and the student life is diverse. It has a quiet college town vibe,” says broker Jill Petranek with Coldwell Banker Realty Naperville. “But you’ll mostly find older ranch homes in the neighborhood.” While the community borders the university, the airport’s runway stretches between homes and the campus, so residents here are much more likely to see planes taking off than students walking to class. Amenities like restaurants and grocery stores are just on the other side of the airport, so residents and university students can easily access amenities without venturing too far from home.

Lewis University doesn’t have comprehensive public transportation, so residents will likely rely on their cars to get around. Residents can also take Route 53 to UChicago Medicine Advent Health Bolingbrook, 10 miles away. Downtown Chicago is 36 miles away for commuters. Lewis University's brunch and Italian beef sandwich destinations

In the mornings, residents stop in Niko’s Breakfast Club for brunch, with a menu that features every type of egg dish and pancakes topped with strawberries or Oreos. The setting feels more rustic, with roosters and chickens everywhere across the restaurant—from pictures and paintings on the walls to figurines along the booths. Niko himself often makes an appearance and gets to know his regulars. Pop’s Italian Beef and Sausage is a local fast-food chain specializing in Chicago’s classic Italian beef sandwiches. On Wednesdays, people can stop by for Weiner Wednesdays, where Pop’s offers special deals for a hotdog and fries. Most grocery stores are located along Weber Street on the other side of the airport from the residential Lewis University, so there’s a Walmart Supercenter and Aldi within 5.5 miles of residents.
