Live, learn and play in Royal Palm Beach

The Crestwood community of Royal Palm Beach may best be described as a “live, learn, play” community. The area includes a varied tapestry of condos, townhouses and single-family homes centered around a massive park and two local schools. Churches and grocery stores are within the community, and restaurants and retail are nearby. Save for one gated area and one private, age-restricted section, the distinct subdivisions of Crestwood blend seamlessly with most entrances found along Crestwood Boulevard South. “It has more of a community feel because there’s no divider [between most developments],” says Jennifer Booker, a Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Florida Realty broker associate with 15 years of experience in the West Palm Beach area. With Preservation Park at the heart of the community and Commons Park nearby, residents can easily reach the playground or attend local festivals. “I’d describe the community as family-friendly,” says Royal Palm Beach resident Jasmine Schmidt, an employee of the nearby Royal Palm Beach Branch Library. “There’s not really anything crazy going on, but the village always has events.” The community also has easy access to the HCA Florida Palms West Hospital.

Gated estate homes and Grand View condos

Condos and townhouses within the Grand View at Crestwood and the 55-plus Strathmore Gate West developments range from about $250,000 to $350,000. Larger townhouses like those in the Weybridge development can cost between $350,000 and $450,000 for older models and up to $600,000 for modern builds. Many single-family homes showcase Spanish and Mediterranean influences with red tile roofs and decorative arches, and properties outside the gated area typically cost between $550,000 and $700,000. Homes within the guard-gated Estates of Royal Palm Beach are usually the most expensive but provide the most privacy. “These are what we call estate homes, so you have space between the homes and space from your neighbors,” Booker says. These three- and four-bedroom homes can range from $600,000 to $800,000. Hurricanes are possible throughout South Florida, so flood insurance is highly recommended.

New pickleball courts at Preservation Park

Preservation Park covers 65 acres with wetlands trails, athletic courts and an indoor recreation center. The skatepark and brand-new pickleball courts are particularly popular, and there’s a shaded playground beside the parking lot. Nearby Wetlands Park offers another 10 acres of trails lined with native trees. A wooden boardwalk stretches over the marsh, and visitors often spot ducks and other waterfowl preening by the water. At more than 160 acres, Commons Park is one of the largest green spaces in Royal Palm Beach, accommodating everything from outdoor concerts in the amphitheater to rounds of golf — traditional and disc. Kayaks and canoes are available for rent at the on-site sports center, and there are half a dozen fishing piers. The park also includes more than 3 miles of paved trails, a playground and a spacious café with an indoor pavilion often used for birthday parties. The Calypso Bay Waterpark, a highlight of the nearby Seminole Palms Park, is packed throughout the summer. This park also hosts local baseball and soccer leagues on its many fields.

Local events at Commons Park

From October to May, residents can spend Saturday mornings perusing local produce at the Royal Palm Beach Green Market & Bazaar outside Village Hall. Commons Park hosts multiple events throughout the year, including the annual Royal Palm Beach Seafood Festival in March. The village’s Fourth of July celebrations, along with themed festivals in fall and winter, also occur here. At the South Florida Fairgrounds, thousands of people enjoy 17 days of concerts, carnival rides and local vendors during the annual South Florida Fair, which has taken place every January since 1912. The fairgrounds also host holiday craft fairs, comic cons and antique festivals.
