Classic American living with remnants of the 1950s
Located only a few miles away from the heart of Sacramento, the neighborhood of Arden Park features nearly 1,900 homes lining winding, gridded streets. A very involved community center and neighborhood association contribute to Arden Park's strong sense of village living. Susan Lawrence-Nunley of Birdie Real Estate, a native Sacramento resident, says that the area's approach to family is a big draw. "It's very family-friendly. That's why people like it," she said. "It is one of the most family-focused neighborhoods in Sacramento because of the neighborhood association." The neighborhood was first developed in 1946, and architecture from the neighborhood's early days remains, as well as a classic sense of 1950s American family living.

Private yards big enough for inground pools
Ranches and ramblers from the middle of the century are abundant in Arden Park, with a median price of $885,000. Houses range from $525,000 for an old villa that needs some love to $1.5 million for recently renovated two-story homes on large plots with private pools and pristine landscaping. Brick facades and earth-toned Mediterranean revivals contribute to the neighborhood's variety, sitting under established spruce, palm, and maple trees. Though the neighborhood has shy of 2,000 houses, the yards remain more generous than many Sacramento districts. Locals take advantage of their shaded space with in-ground pools, seating areas with firepits and the occasional private tennis court.

Organized events through the neighborhood association
The Arden Park Neighborhood Association operates out of the park's community center, which hosts an extensive list of programs and events. An adult kickball league and men's softball league bring in residents for friendly competition, while events draw the community together to bond through paint parties, wine and beer tastings and trivia nights. Residents can attend the many gatherings organized by the Arden Park Neighborhood Association every year. The Fall Festival covers classic fall activities like pumpkin picking, and the Easter Eggstravaganza allows kids to hunt for eggs before taking a photo with the Easter Bunny. Movie nights, musical performances and a car show fill the other weekends of the year.
