Sacramento suburb next to an airport with nearby transportation options
It would be easy to define the suburb of Brentwood as “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” since it’s wedged between the Sacramento Executive Airport to the west and the city’s rail line to the east and highways run just beyond both. But to do so misses all that it has to offer, though first and most prominent among its attributes is access to transportation. “The neighborhood is in an area with easy access to all freeways,” says Gavin Ray, Realtor with Keller Properties.
Ranch-style homes with three bedrooms
Residential, sidewalk-lined streets are laid out in a grid pattern, featuring mostly ranch-style homes. “They’re mainly older homes from the 1950s to the 1970s,” says Ray. “Most have three-bedroom, one-bathroom floorplans and were built by the same builder.” These feature side-gabled roofs, shaded front porches and well-manicured lawns; driveways lead to either one- or two-car garages. Home sizes vary between 1,000 and 1,600 square feet, and range from $330,000 to $515,000.

Access to nearby freeways and rail trains
Interstate 5 (also known as the West Side Freeway) is 3 miles from Brentwood. The Golden State Highway (U.S. Route 99) sits 2 miles east and leads roughly 6 miles north to Downtown Sacramento. Bike lanes run along main thoroughfares like 47th Avenue and 24th Street. Sacramento Regional Transit buses stop along Fruitridge Road, the neighborhood’s northern boundary, while the city’s light rail carries passengers downtown in about 15 minutes. The Sacramento Executive Airport does not offer commercial flights, though it is the place to go for flight training and private planes. Locals often go to watch planes overhead and most get used to the noise quickly, though the airport does have a noise abatement program. Commercial flights are available from Sacramento International Airport, which is about 18 miles northwest. The UC Davis Medical Center sits nearby.

The roughly 10-acre Airport Little League Park to the southwest hosts youth and senior softball and baseball games across four fields.

At Aviator’s Restaurant and Cafe, located at the Sacramento Executive Airport, diners can enjoy burgers and onion rings while watching planes take off and land. Fast-food chains and Thai eateries sit west of the airport. Grocery stores are found a few miles north of the neighborhood, including Safeway and Raley’s; Long Chang Market, about a mile east, stocks Asian goods. Department stores like Marshalls sit west of I-5, while big-box stores, such as The Home Depot, are found southeast of the neighborhood. Shoppers can also find locally owned craft and gift stores along the Sacramento River downtown.

Mid-Autumn Festival with water lanterns
While there aren’t events in Brentwood, residents aren’t far from local, year-round activities. About 12 miles south in Elk Grove, the Laguna Town Hall hosts the annual two-day Mid-Autumn Festival every September. Here, locals can buy battery-powered water lanterns for $5, then drop them into the fountain. Food from area restaurants will be provided, and cultural performances by local dancers and high schoolers will take place; seating is limited, so attendees are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets.
