Living on Cottage Way

Camino is an established suburb with spacious homes, great schools and recreation opportunities less than 10 miles east of downtown Sacramento. “The Cottage Way corridor is a great place to live, and people really seem to like it here,” says Mark McDonough of Coldwell Banker Realty, who has sold nearly 100 properties in the area. Cottage Way is the main east to west thoroughfare through the neighborhood. “You’re in the suburbs and that means you get a little more land for a pool or a big backyard.” Camino is largely residential; the majority of the neighborhood is made up of single-family homes. Neighbors will likely get to know one another, as over 70% of the population owns their homes and is planting roots.

Established 1950s homes

Houses in Camino are mostly ranch-style and tri-level builds from the 1950s. These properties are clustered into subdivisions featuring quiet residential roads shaded by mature trees. Homes range in price from $500,000 to just over $950,000. “It’s a very competitive market, and the prices reflect that,” says Molly Lukenbill-Elorduy of Coldwell Banker Realty, who has a decade of experience in the area. “The homes are older, but you just don’t get the lot size with newer developments, and some people really value that.” Roads wind and don't have much through traffic, and most have attached garages and long driveways for easy parking. Dog walkers, runners and parents should note that there are not many sidewalks in the neighborhood.
