A longstanding north Sacramento community with parks, trails and places to gather
Noralto is a well-established neighborhood in north Sacramento, home to mostly midcentury housing with area-low prices that appeal to investors. Parks and trails surround the neighborhood on all sides, and locally owned restaurants are found just south on Del Paso Boulevard. Area community centers include the HOPE Center, which serves the local Hmong American Community, alongside public-school programs that teach the Hmong language. The neighborhood receives a CAP Index crime score of 7 out of 10, higher than the national average of 4.
Right on the Sacramento Northern Bikeway Trail, a couple of miles from I-80
Noralto is about 2 miles from Interstate 80, and downtown Sacramento is only 4 miles south on the other side of the American River. Sacramento Regional Transit’s Route 19 bus runs through the neighborhood, connecting passengers with the wider metro area. The Sacramento Northern Bikeway Trail also runs along the neighborhood’s south edge. The nearest hospital, Kaiser Permanente Sacramento Medical Center, is about 4 miles away. Sacramento McClellan Airport is 7 miles away, while Sacramento International Airport is 11 miles away.
Midcentury ranch-style homes and 1920s cottages popular with investors
Most of the homes in Noralto were built between 1940 and 1985, though a handful of cottages from the 1920s are scattered around. Minimal Traditional ranch-style homes and bungalows, typically with two to four bedrooms, feature shingle-tile roofs and stucco exteriors, sometimes with an attached one-car garage or covered carport. Though lot sizes tend to be on the smaller side, fenced-in front yards are shaded by mature oak and pine trees. Prices largely depend on the state of the home, typically ranging from $150,000 to $450,000. Since home prices here are lower than in many Sacramento neighborhoods, the market is somewhat driven by investors purchasing, renovating and renting out properties. “You can find a house for under $400,000,” says Nicki Kalteis, a Realtor with Coldwell Banker. “Which makes it a great investment area.” More than half of residents rent their homes, and some properties are being converted into multi-family units in order to maximize revenue for the owner.

Biking, skating and walking along the East Levee
Noralto is bordered to the west by Steelhead Creek. On the other side, East Levee Road is a scenic walking trail along the water. “People like biking, skating and walking along the levee,” says Barbara Krieger, a Realtor associate with Re/Maxx Gold who’s been working in north Sacramento since 1999.
The neighborhood is also next to the nearby 25-acre Johnston Park, which features basketball courts, playgrounds and a community pool; the latter draws a crowd in the summer, when temperatures often top 100 degrees. Smaller greenspaces like Triangle Park dot the neighborhood’s edges, usually including shaded playgrounds and flat grass fields. Redwood Park has a baseball field with wooden bleachers and a concession stand, and occasionally hosts Little League games.

It could be better but its not bad. The atmosphere is a bit rough and kind of tense. However it is a calm neighborhood and I would live here again. I see a lot of development in this area compared to the rest of the world its decent even if not wealthy
