A community-based neighborhood
About 4 miles from Midtown Sacramento is Tahoe Park South, a suburb known for its welcoming and inclusive environment. The HOA often hosts events such as scholarship fundraising and is dedicated to creating an engaging community for its neighbors. According to Mairin Haley, a lifelong Sacramento resident and Realtor of 4 years, "Tahoe Park is a very friendly and diverse place to live in — people say hi to their neighbors here and feel comfortable walking around." Haley adds, "Tahoe Park is also close to the freeway, which makes getting around to Midtown and Downtown easy, and residents here have access to the amenities in East Sacramento, a neighborhood next door." The neighborhood also comes with its namesake park, Tahoe Park. Homes start at $475,000 and go up to $700,000.
From bungalows to Craftsman
Most homes in Tahoe Park are what local Realtor and fourth-generation Sacramentan Tom Leonard describes as "World War II era housing," which are smaller and more compact. "Tahoe Park boomed in the 1940s, had issues in the 1980s and 1990s, but it's really taken off once again," Leonard says. "It's also due to the expansion of UC Davis Medical Center and the large number of millennials, who are the largest sector of home buyers at this time. You can walk or ride a bike to UCD in minutes. But in most cases, you can purchase a home for half of the price, maybe 30% to 40% less, depending on location." Leonard also adds that you can "purchase a solid home with a big yard here." Some styles include ranches, Craftsman and bungalows. Prices for homes start at $475,000 and go up to $700,000.
Enrolling at Sacramento High School
Children may begin their education at Tahoe Park Elementary School, which earns a C-plus from Niche. Students may then continue at California Middle School and Sacramento High School, both of which receive B ratings overall. Sacramento High School offers its students dual enrollment, advanced placement, and college preparation courses.
Having a picnic at Tahoe Park
Tahoe Park is the neighborhood's designated green space and spans about 17.82 acres. The park includes amenities such as a basketball court, soccer field, swimming pool, volleyball court and picnic tables. There are also restrooms available for use. "The park there is extremely spacious and nice," says Haley. "So many events are held here, like sporting events, food trucks, and people lounging in the grass."
Lining up for Momo's Meat Market
According to Leonard, Tahoe Park South has a thriving food scene, including Michelin Plate Award winner Bacon & Butter. Since local restaurateur Billy Zoelin opened the eatery in 2014, the business has thrived due to unique brunch items like banana cream waffles. "It literally has a line out the door year around," Leonard says. "He has an excellent following, and the food is very creative and delicious." Another local favorite in the neighborhood is MoMo's Meat Market, which serves up authentic Southern barbeque. "If you don't get to MoMo's Meat Market on time daily, you for sure won't get exactly what you wanted," Leonard said. "They sell out very often and almost every time I am there." For groceries and other needs, residents can head to Your Family Grocery.
Food Truck Mania at Tahoe Park
The Tahoe Park neighborhood association regularly hosts events for its residents. Food Truck Mania is a local favorite, which includes food from local businesses and live music. There is also the annual Tahoe Park Yard Sale, taking place every spring.
Traveling with Highway 50
Tahoe Park is by Highway 50, which residents can use to get to the Sacramento International Airport, about a 16-mile drive away. Public transportation options, such as bus stops on 14th Avenue Street, are also available.
