Historical ties and proximity to Saginaw and Flint
The Bridgeport Charter Township rests along a bend in the Cass River and can trace its history back to 1848. The recently renovated landmark Cass River Bridge and the Historical Village of Bridgeport keep residents connected to that history. Though it’s less than 7 miles from downtown Saginaw, charter township status protects it from being annexed by the city, which allows residents to enjoy lower tax rates and utility costs. “It’s a really nice community between two big hubs — Saginaw and Flint,” says Andrew Keller, broker/owner of Knockout Real Estate, who has lived nearby for more than 12 years. At its center, Dixie Highway — one of the country's first North-South highways — meets with Interstate 75. From there, roads fan out into a more rural landscape. “The unique thing about Bridgeport is that you can be in an industrial area, and five minutes later, you’re in the sticks,” Keller says.

Summer concerts and Christmas carols at The Historical Village of Bridgeport
At the Historical Village of Bridgeport, a cluster of historic buildings, including an 1860s schoolhouse and the old town hall, serve as reminders of Bridgeport's past. The village is also a gathering ground for free summer concerts and the annual Pioneer Christmas. This day-long holiday celebration features whittling and lace-tatting demonstrations in the William W. Shomaker Museum, followed by caroling on the steps of the old town hall. On Tuesday nights in July and August, people set up lawn chairs around the gazebo and relax in the grass while local musicians play. Nearby houses of worship include the Bridgeport Community Church, the Faith Lutheran Church and St. Francis de Sales Parish.
Bridgeport is a proud town with its own historical William W. Schomaker Museum.

Canoeing the Cass River or venturing into Saginaw
The Cass River provides an opportunity for canoeing or kayaking. There’s a small pier at Davis Park where boaters can put in, and the park also has picnic areas and a playground. The 18-hole Green Acres Golf Course is a few miles down Dixie Highway, and the Bridgeport Gun Club rests in the middle of a forest off King Road. The gun club organizes events throughout the year, including fish fries and banquets for its members and community-wide euchre tournaments. “If people are looking for something to do, they usually go up to Saginaw or into Frankenmuth,” Keller says. In Frankenmuth, there are tourist-friendly attractions, like Zehnder’s Splash Village, an indoor water park, and Saginaw has a children’s zoo and several event venues.
Davis Community Park has a well-maintained play set for kids to enjoy anytime.
Bridgeport golfers can go to the Green Acres Golf Course for a round of golf.

A mix of 1900s homes and farmland in Bridgeport
Though the first homes in Bridgeport were built in the early 1800s, most of housing that stands today was built in the 1900s. Some residences rest behind tall trees, just off the roadways, and there are several small developments interspersed with large plots of farmland. The median lot size is just under a half-acre, so residents often have a little more privacy than in Saginaw. Styles are often a mix of mid-1900s Minimal Traditional-style cottages and Cape Cods, as well as ranch-style homes from the late 1900s. Buyers may find a house needing repairs priced between $50,000 and $80,000, and updated homes range from $90,000 to $350,000, depending on size and age. The Cass River tends to flood after heavy rains, and some lenders may require flood insurance.
Ranches are another standard home style found in Bridgeport.

Restaurants and a Kroger on Dixie Highway
Restaurants, grocery stores and truck stops dot the sides of the wide, four-lane Dixie Highway. One popular dining spot is Whisky Dix, which serves smash burgers, sandwiches and bloody marys with towering toppings. The New Pompeii is known for its signature grinder sandwiches like the bearcat and Philly grinder. At the center of the township is Butter Crust Bakery, where people can stop by for fresh-baked donuts and custom cakes. There are some pharmacies, a special occasion dress shop and a large Kroger on Dixie Highway as well, but many people will drive about 14 miles into Saginaw’s retail district when they need new clothing or household goods.
