Peace and privacy in Wildrose
Resting along the scenic Fox River, Wildrose is a peaceful pocket of St. Charles that residents call a hidden gem. “I grew up in Wildrose and have sold to people who lived their whole lives in St. Charles and didn’t know anything about it. But once they see it, they love it,” says Jennifer Leonard-Comperda, a broker with Fox Baird & Warner Fox Valley. “It’s got the rolling hills and wooded homes with a lot of privacy.” With the addition of the river’s Red Gate Bridge in 2012, Wildrose became a convenient locale for commuters who prefer its quiet cul-de-sacs and waterfront homes.

Custom-built homes with ample acreage and waterfront views
As homes were developed across the mid-to late-20th century, many were custom designs with colonial and new traditional features. Other homes include split-levels, ranch styles and townhouses. “You can find an established home and put money into it. The sky’s the limit when it comes to the updates you can make,” Leonard-Comperda says. Houses on the neighborhood’s eastern end back up to Fox River and a small lake residents use for kayaking, canoeing and fishing. The sense of seclusion in Wildrose is enhanced by large, forested lawns ranging from a quarter-acre to more than 3 acres, personal driveways and one- to two-car garages. Price points for townhouses and smaller, single-family properties range from $221,000 to $760,000. Homes with spacious plots of land or waterfront views can sell for $800,000 to $1.6 million.

Kayaking and fishing on Fox River
Outdoor options are abundant around Wildrose. Along with its mulched playground and jogging trails, Ferson Creek Park features vistas of surrounding waterways. Kayak and canoe launches give people a spot to head out onto Fox River or Ferson Creek. Timber Trails Park’s grassy knolls become sledding hills in the winter. It’s also a favorite among hikers and bikers. “From there, you can go down to Timbers Park and bike along trails and sidewalks all the way to downtown without crossing a major road until you get to Route 64,” Leonard-Comperda says. Crossing the Red Gate Bridge to the east leads to the waterfront Pottawatomie Park. Stroll along the water’s edge or hop on a boat cruise. The expansive park also has two golf courses – one spans 9 holes, while the other is a miniature putt-putt course. During the summer months, the wildlife-themed water park at Otter Cove Aquatic Center becomes a hotspot because of its towering tube slides, splash pads and wading pools.
Ferson Creek Forest Preserve is a great place for boating activites.

Meeting friends for drinks at Riverlands Brewing Company
Live music attracts locals to Riverlands Brewing Company on the weekends. The brewery at the neighborhood’s southern end also has an outdoor patio that fills up quickly when food trucks roll through. When heading downtown, just 2 miles south, Leonard-Comperda recommends stopping by E&S Fish Company, which doubles as a market and a restaurant. There are also several spots for Italian food. La Za’ Za’ Trattoria has been a staple in the area for nearly 30 years, while Salerno’s on the Fox is popular for its riverfront views. Well-loved consignment shops and boutiques are also dotted throughout the downtown district. “You will find more locally owned stores than big chains,” says Christine Currey, a real estate agent with RE/MAX All Pro. “We love supporting the small shops. It feels like a partnership between the residents and businesses, and we are investing in the community.” Directions in Clothing, Jeans and Cute Top Shop, Ghoulish Mortals and Boutique Baby are just a few of the retail options in St. Charles. For grocery essentials, locals can make the 2-mile drive to ALDI.
