Arts are a key feature of this St. Louis neighborhood
Culture emanates from seemingly every block in Grand Center. This St. Louis neighborhood has been an entertainment district for more than a century, full of theaters, galleries, concert venues and restaurants. Classic art deco-style signage and architecture hint at the area’s well-established reputation and the constant drumbeat of activity coursing through the streets here signals that the show isn’t stopping anytime soon. “There’s live music every night, and there are about 20 local restaurants, a Puttshack and outlet stores,” says Realtor Ryan Shakofsky of Shakofsky Drury Real Estate, a St. Louis-area native.

With restaurants and entertainment venues, there's plenty to do
Many of Grand Center’s almost two dozen restaurants and bars are concentrated in a corridor from Delmar to Lindell boulevards. Options include spots like the Best Steak House, a no-frills, cafeteria-style restaurant that’s been open since 1964 and serves up everything from sirloins to gyros. Turn is a brunch hotspot known for its biscuit flight, which includes four biscuits, butter, honey and jam. Stage Left Grille nods to the neighborhood’s entertainment roots, complete with the show posters that serve as decor. Stage Left even stays open later when shows are on the schedule at the Fabulous Fox Theatre down the street. City Foundry, a mile south of Grand Center, is an outdoor mall with retail shops and a food hall packed with 20 vendors. "You've got some stuff inside the Foundry that appeals to all taste buds," says Trish Herron, a Realtor with Mid America Property Partners and a St. Louis native. "So you can go in there, and you can find Asian, American, Thai and sweets." Save A Lot on Page Boulevard is a nearby place to grab groceries. The Fabulous Fox is one of the neighborhood’s landmarks and is nearly unmissable thanks to its towering black and gold sign and Siamese-Byzantine architecture. The space opened as a movie theater in 1929 and now hosts more than 200 events yearly, from musicals to comedy shows. The Grandel Theatre is another place with historic roots. It houses multiple event spaces in a striking Romanesque Revival-style structure that dates to 1884 and originally served as First Congregational Church. The sound quality at the Sheldon is renowned and the venue hosts around 350 events a year.

The St. Louis University Museum of Art, meanwhile, has four floors of art, displaying thousands of pieces. The St. Lou Fringe Fest in August is another staple on the calendar. The festival is an almost week-long art exhibition with shows in comedy, dance and theater across numerous venues.

Classic homes provide proximity to Grand Center's amenities
Grand Center’s core is commercial, but the area’s outskirts offer a mix of housing. Many of the options date back to around the turn of the 20th century, including a collection of Victorian-style homes on Westminster Place. Italianate is another common style here. The wide majority of residents here are renters. Most houses that hit the market, including traditional single-family homes and condos, go for $200,000 to $500,000. There’s also a relatively new development called On Olive, with contemporary-style houses selling from $700,000 to $1.2 million. “There’s a big push for revitalization because it’s a real central hub just outside downtown St. Louis,” Shakofsky says.
