Affordable, commuter-friendly living in northwest St. Louis
Only 5 miles from downtown St. Louis, Kingsway offers a commuter-friendly neighborhood served by several bus lines. Though vacant properties line some of the community’s streets, organizations like Kingsway Development aim to alter the trajectory of Kingsway’s housing and retail accessibility. Because improvement plans are still in place, median housing prices in Kingsway remain over $200,000 below nearby communities like Central West End.
Kingsway homes with historical charm
The neighborhood maintains a historical feel with brick homes dating back to the early 1900s. Many streets feature traditional-style houses with dormer windows and covered porches, though the occasional bungalow and Victorian-style home can also be found along the sidewalk’s edge. While some homes boast recent renovations, unoccupied houses aren’t an unfamiliar sight. While the reason for the vacancies varies, Juan Lewis of Kingsbury Real Estate—a resident of St. Louis and an agent with over 20 years of experience in the area—explains that older residents left behind some homes after decades of occupancy. “They never really fixed them up, so investors are coming for pennies on the dollar.” Homes needing renovation start at around $15,000, while turnkey homes with two or three bedrooms start at $60,000.
