A hip campus energy all its own
Just 2 miles west of Downtown St. Louis, Midtown flows with vibrant energy. The neighborhood's energetic atmosphere stems from two universities surrounded by renowned restaurants with some of the best food in the country, along with lively bars and entertainment venues, including the largest one in the city. "It is the perfect intermediary between Central West End and Downtown," says Ashleigh Bolar, Team lead of Bolar Group Realty, who sells homes all over St. Louis. "You have access to a bunch of micro-breweries, and entertainment is at an all-time high."
The best Memphis-style ribs in America
Midtown is packed with local bars and restaurants, drawing St. Louisans and college students to the neighborhood all day and night. That includes nationally acclaimed Pappy's Smokehouse, famous for its award-winning Memphis-style ribs, named the best in the country by Food Network. Pappy's affiliate restaurant, Southern, is right next door and is literally a hot spot, serving up Nashville hot chicken. When the night is just getting started, but there's still room for dessert, people will hit up The Fountain on Locust for ice cream martinis while immersed in art deco décor. Locals can get organic produce at Fresh Thyme Market and search for hidden treasures in the warehouse bins at MERS Goodwill Outlet. There are also several big box retailers just a few miles from Midtown.

Mixed-use and single-family maintain architectural charm
With Midtown being a primarily commercial college town, most residents live in mid and high-rise apartments and mixed-use five-over-one buildings, allowing locals to walk right out the door to all of their favorite shops and restaurants. Those on the south side of Midtown, just across the bridge, live in single-family homes with less congestion. Many of them were built in the late 1800s and early 1900s, featuring Colonial Revival and Italianate architecture. Most have driveways or parking garages accessible through a back alleyway, along with street parking available in the front. Fully renovated properties range from $325,000 to $425,000, offering sleek modern interiors while maintaining the exterior's architectural integrity. Homes that could use some work sell for around $125,000 to $250,000. There are, however, some newer Craftsman-style homes developed after 2020, which range from $375,000 to $450,000. They're fixed on quarter-acre lots with roomier yards and long driveways from the front that lead to attached garages in the back.

Never a dull moment
There's no shortage of entertainment in Midtown, where people are always gathering for concerts, theater productions, art galleries and so much more. "You won't be bored living in Midtown," says Bolar. "You have all of these entertainment venues, and there's more and more being invested." While there are tons of bars to hang out at, there's nothing quite like Armory. Originally home to the Missouri National Guard Armory, this 250,000-square-foot space is the largest bar/entertainment venue in the city. Six bar stations, pub grub, arcade games and a stage for live music and events are just some of the many features that make Armory a premier hangout spot. Locals also enjoy gathering at City Foundry STL, a vibrant center where people can hit up dozens of shops and restaurants, enjoy a glass of wine with live music and play virtual reality games. It's also home to Alamo Drafthouse, a movie theater that serves cocktails and gourmet food. Saint Louis University's Chaifetz Arena attracts college basketball fans and concertgoers watching their favorite bands. Those who love the arts can catch touring Broadway shows at The Fabulous Fox and view the modern art galleries at Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis.
