A home to many throughout the years
Dayton's Bluff has long served as a home and an important location for many different communities. First as a village of the Dakota people, then an early brewery and Irish and German settlement, the land is now a residential neighborhood in Saint Paul with over 18,000 residents. Dayton's Bluff sits east of the Mississippi River and to the southeast side of downtown, offering easy access to the amenities in the city and the great outdoors. Because the neighborhood is built on a plateau, it also includes scenic views of the surrounding areas. Francesco Marraffa, owner of Kilt Real Estate, says that Dayton's Bluff is "a great location, close to a historic area and downtown Saint Paul, which you get some of the best views of." Marraffa: "There's also a small airport nearby, and you can watch planes taking off and landing." He also says the residents here are "super friendly," adding, "People love their homes and have a sense of pride owning them. There's a strong sense of community overall."

Densely packed bungalows and Craftsman
Most homes here were built before the 1950s, resulting in architectural styles such as bungalows and Craftsman. Houses are densely packed together, coming with yard space and tree-lined sidewalks. Marraffa: "The housing varies and is unique. There's a lot of old-fashioned houses, with beautiful woodwork, stained glazed windows, more traditional than your typical two-story home. There's also more stately homes: barons of the time, you could say." Residents are split between renters and homeowners, with renters at 51% and homeowners at 49%. Home prices start at $190,000 and go up to $400,000.

Grocery stores like the Mississippi Market Natural Foods Co-op, Centromex Supermercado and Hmong Village are nearby. Heading into downtown Saint Paul, about a 2-mile drive away, will reveal even more options in the city. Marraffa says the dining scene is "quite eclectic, with many great independent restaurants." He says, "You've got access to so many different types of cuisine: Thai, Mexican, and Hmong, for instance." Manana Salvadoran is a popular spot, serving dishes like pupusas, quesadillas and enchiladas. There are also big fast-food brands located downtown. Marraffa recommends a Downtown Saint Paul Airport restaurant: "Holman's Table is in the control tower. I really enjoyed it."
