Just three miles north of downtown St. Petersburg on Interstate 275 is Arcadia Gardens, a neighborhood in a prime location. “It’s a cliché for sure, but the location is the main driver here, but it’s also proximity matched with affordability,” says Kevin Marrow, who has years of real estate experience with Dalton Wade INC. “It’s close to downtown, but it’s also located in a non-flood zone so you don’t have to worry about the weather constantly like you would in some areas.”

A one-bedroom condo on the north side of the neighborhood begins at $115,000, while two-bedroom detached homes start around $300,000. Three-bedroom ranch-style homes with large yards are in the $625,000 ballpark. “You have the same benefits as other neighborhoods, where you might have to pay twice the price for the exact same home,” says Marrow. The homes are located on quiet streets away from the busier roads. Driveways provide ample parking for each property, while large palm trees deliver shade from the hot Florida sun. The easily accessible sidewalks and fenced-in lawns make it a good neighborhood for residents with pets.

Kids in Arcadia Gardens attend the Pinellas County Schools, beginning at Sexton Elementary, which owns a B-minus rating on Niche. They then attend Meadowlawn Middle, which was also given a B-minus grade by Niche. Northeast High earned a B-plus rating and is known for being an excellent school for athletes. The school was noted for its athletic department on Niche, and the baseball team and girls golf team were both crowned as state champions in recent years.

Franklin Heights Park is a good place to take a pet on a walk or enjoy some Florida sunshine. The park has picnic tables and a walking trail, with plenty of green space to sit down and read a book or toss a football. For an intense indoor workout, there is an Orangetheory fitness center nearby. The Roberts Recreation Center has a full fitness area and is home to several basketball leagues. For more exercise options, walking trails run through the neighborhood.

Locals love to head to Metro Diner for breakfast, lunch or dinner. It’s hard to leave Metro Diner hungry with large portions of specials like the chicken tender sausage gravy waffles. Diners can either sit at the bar or grab a table and peruse the daily offerings written on the chalkboards. For an upscale Mexican dinner, residents visit Red Mesa. The patio is a great place to grab a margarita and enjoy a steak under a palm tree. On the weekend, Red Mesa’s brunch, featuring salmon toast and bottomless mimosas, is popular with Arcadia Gardens residents. For a familiar outing, folks can visit Bonefish Grill for a casual seafood meal.

Farm Stores provides the unique shopping experience of not having to leave the car. The drive-through convenience store provides essentials like cleaning supplies, milk and other household items, making it a great place to stop before or after work. For a full week’s worth of shopping, residents head to the Publix or the Wynn Dixie on 4th Street to stock the fridge. Further north on 4th Street, there are plenty of retail options for those looking to shop.

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
