With a population of approximately 318, the tiny Norwood Heights neighborhood of St. Petersburg gives locals a haven from the hustle and bustle of the city. Its residential blocks of homes, dense with greenery, have a quiet secluded atmosphere and proximity to an industrial park. “People can be close to the warehouses and businesses where they work,” says Realtor Luda Shulman with FL Investment Realty and over 15 years of experience in the region.

Homes
The western half of Norwood Heights is composed of industrial sites and warehouses, while the eastern half has streets of single-family homes. Although the area isn’t very walkable, residents can take strolls on uncongested streets. The neighborhood features thick underbrush and mature trees to shade the medium-sized lawns. The homes come with driveways or detached garages for parking. As for housing styles, the dwellings tend to be on the smaller side: brightly painted cottages, bungalows and ranch-style houses. Sales prices range from $164,700 for a one-bedroom cottage to $476,000 for a larger ranch-style home. “They have homes on the more affordable side. That’s the appeal,” Shulman says.
Schools
Students in the area go to the Pinellas County School District, which earns an A-minus rating and is ranked the No. 1 best school district in the Tampa area according to Niche. Schools include New Heights Elementary School, Meadowlawn Middle School and St. Petersburg High School. The elementary school has a C-plus rating, the middle school also has a C-plus and the high school earns an A grade. The high school features the unique Junior Achievement 3DE Program which allows students to have real-world experiences and internships in workplaces.
Parks
To spend time outside in sunny Florida, locals can head to Booker Creek Park, which has a walking trail around a lake, docks where people can spot alligators and a basketball court. At Woodlawn Park, athletes can practice on soccer fields, ballfields and volleyball courts.
Shopping and Dining
The local retail spots for groceries include Publix and Mazzaro’s Italian Market, where customers can buy fine Italian cuisines from the deli and the bakery or even attend events like wine tastings and book signings. For house projects, residents can stop by Lowe’s or Home Depot. To go out to eat, the Stone Soup Café & Pub offers soup and sandwich combos in a low-lit wooden tavern setting or on a patio with TVs.
Events
Fans of the Tampa Bay Rays can go to Tropicana Field on game days. The stadium also has a touch tank with stingrays native to the Tampa Bay waters and a baseball museum. Being close to the stadium, residents can find baseball-themed art throughout the neighborhood.
Transportation
About 4 miles from downtown St. Petersburg, residents can easily commute via Interstate 275 South or take a Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority bus. Some people may work at employers within the neighborhood like ProSun International or Euro Choice Windows and Doors Florida. For weekend adventures, locals can explore St. Pete’s Sunken Gardens or The Dalí (Salvador Dalí Museum). In Norwood Heights, residents can rest in peaceful streets tucked away from the city’s hubbub and nightlife.
