Suburban life with a scenic, Tennessee mountain backdrop
In Bakewell-Sale Creek, it’s all about the scenery. Chickamauga Lake is to the east, and Flat Top Mountain is to the west, giving this suburban-rural neighborhood a natural backdrop covered in trees that turn vibrant colors in the fall. But things aren’t so remote, as U.S. Route 27 runs through the middle of the neighborhood, offering a way to reach commercial destinations. It all adds up to a well-developed setting that’s suburban, but it has enough of a rural edge to appease nature lovers. “Chickamauga Lake is considered one of the best bass fishing lakes in the country,” says Realtor Gloria Page, who's been working in the area for over a decade and is currently with Keller Williams and Zach Taylor Real Estate. Along with outdoor recreation, locals enjoy larger homes and lots than the southern neighborhoods closer to downtown Chattanooga.
Developments centered on modern traditional homes
Fingers of Chickamauga Lake extend into Bakewell-Sale Creek, making it possible to have both waterfront property and mountain views at the same time. To the south, homes with sprawling yards and large driveways sit on winding roads. U.S. 27 to the north leads to a scenic, more rural landscape where homes dot narrow country roads under a canopy of trees. Most homes throughout the neighborhood were built on at least a half-acre. Ranch-style homes, colonials and modern traditional homes with Craftsman stylings are prevalent, with the occasional log cabin in the northern portion. Two-bedroom homes range from $200,000 to $500,000, while houses with four bedrooms or more for $400,000 to $800,000. Though some properties date back to the 1960s, the majority were built after 2000.

Nearby small towns and amenities
Page points out that Bakewell-Sale Creek residents dine out in Dayton or downtown Chattanooga. For groceries, there’s a Food City in Soddy-Daisy, a neighboring community that borders Bakewell-Sale Creek to the south. Residents can also drive about 20 miles west to downtown Dunlap for both dining and shopping destinations. “The most popular Mexican restaurant is El Metate,” Page says. El Metate offers an extensive menu focusing on traditional dishes with a bit of a modern twist. Closer to home, Steve’s Landing Waterfront Grill stands at the border of Soddy-Daisy and Bakewell-Sale Creek and at the edge of Soddy Lake. Steve’s Landing serves seafood from a cabin with a tree-shaded patio perched along the waterfront. For some one of a kind items, the Small Town Antique Mall on Dayton Pike is ideal for discovering home décor from yesteryear. Open since 1997, Small Town is one of the few commercial spots within the neighborhood. “We chose this spot because we have a lot of travelers that go up and down 27,” says Sue Clark, manager of Small Town Antique Mall. “We also get a lot of locals that know we're here and know the quality that we carry.”
