Friendly neighbors and convenient commutes in east Salem
East Lancaster is known as one of Salem’s top shopping and dining destinations, but this suburban neighborhood also offers a community-oriented place to call home in the capital city. “People are friendly. They take care of their lawns, so they’re out and about,” says Shannon Banke, a Realtor with Zenith Realty LLC with a decade of experience. “They’re out in the community. They help their neighbors.” The East Lancaster Neighborhood Association is one way locals build community. The group participates in school fundraisers, donates materials to local nonprofits to build affordable homes and organizes a neighborhood watch. The area’s sidewalk-lined streets bring residents out for walks or jogs while others are constantly outside doing yard work or working on home projects, making it easy to interact with and befriend neighbors.
