Suburb situated 13 miles from downtown San Antonio
El Dorado, San Antonio: while it’s not quite the mythological city of gold, residents certainly treasure the convenience of this established neighborhood. Military families appreciate that it is 10 miles away from both Fort Sam Houston and Randolph Air Force Base. Residents can drive 13 miles to explore downtown San Antonio or stick around El Dorado and enjoy all it has to offer.
Contemporary and ranch-style residences
Lined with sidewalks, El Dorado neighborhood streets gently curve into cul-de-sacs. In some front yards, large trees provide shade during the hot Texan summers. Beige brick homes have short driveways and attached garages. Most are one-story houses, though some have two stories. Contemporary and traditional ranch-style homes tend to have three to five bedrooms. Most fall between $210,000 and $300,000. “El Dorado is an older part of northeast San Antonio with a lot of character,” says Cesar Amezcua, Broker and Owner at CA & Company, and one of the Top 50 Residential Real Estate Agents recognized by the San Antonio Business Journal. “Some houses are on the smaller side, but people stay here a long time.” El Dorado residents recognize that the housing prices here are more affordable compared to the newer San Antonio suburbs further to the northeast.

Community activities at Thousand Oaks Library
There are several special places that bring the community together in El Dorado. “The heart and soul of the area is Morgan’s Wonderland,” says Amezcua. “One of our city’s millionaires, Gordon Hartman, dedicated his life to philanthropy and built his daughter with special needs a theme park, which is open to the community.” Morgan’s Wonderland is one of the few theme parks in the world that caters to children and adults with special needs. Locals also gather to watch professional soccer matches at Toyota Field. Additionally, Thousand Oaks Library puts on community activities like tai chi classes and art shows.
