Englewood has a mixed neighborhood with homes sitting on main roads.
A walkable community in San Antonio
Englewood is a southside San Antonio community where students have an easy walk or drive to the campus of Luther Burbank High School. The neighborhood is also bordered by two major freeways, Interstate 10 and Interstate 35, making for a quick commute to destinations in downtown San Antonio. And while there are no public parks within the neighborhood, it’s just a short trek east to Concepcion Park, a green space that borders the San Antonio River. “As San Antonio continues to grow, more people are buying in these southside neighborhoods,” says Realtor RJ Reyes of Keller Williams, a longtime area resident whose been in real estate for more than two decades. “We’re seeing an increase in investment and renovation here, mostly because of its proximity to downtown.”
Bungalows with fenced yards
Englewood is laid out on a traditional street grid with a range of early and mid-20th century home styles, including many bungalows, ranch homes and cottages that typically feature two to three bedrooms. Many of these homes offer small, fenced-in yards, driveways and carports. Lot sizes are typically smaller, around 6,000 to 7,000 square feet, but you’ll still have plenty of room for landscaping with local flora. Some of these homes back up to the brush-laden banks of the San Pedro Creek and the San Antonio River, which run along the northeastern edge of the neighborhood. Unrenovated homes that could use some improvements can sell for around $150,000 while those that have been renovated can sell for more than $250,000. The median home price in Englewood hovers around $200,000, putting it well below the citywide median.
Brick is a common type of construction in Englewood.
Two story homes are rare, but the stucco finish is very common.

Southside favorites and Sam's Clubs in Englewood
There are several sit-down and takeaway restaurants within the neighborhood for residents who'd like to dine close to home. Taco Cabana is a well-known Texas chain where you can pick up tacos, burritos and enchiladas, while Blue Moon Mexican offers a local take on Central American classics. Englewood is also home to Rudy’s Seafood, a southside favorite that's been serving up fried fish for more than half-a-century. The outer walls are adorned with murals of legendary San Antonio Spurs basketball players. Everyday essentials are available at Family Dollar, and grocery shopping can be found about two miles west at H-E-B, a regional grocery chain. About 5 miles south, residents can shop for everything else at big box stores like The Home Depot, Walmart, Target and Sam’s Club.
Burbank High is an International Baccalaureate school.
Organized sports at Burbank High School
Within the neighborhood, young students can walk or bike to Hillcrest Elementary School, which holds a C-minus rating from Niche, an online school review site, while upperclassmen can attend C-minus-rated Harris Middle School and C-rated Burbank High School. Situated at the northwest corner of the neighborhood, Burbank High School enrolls around 1,600 students every year. It’s also home to the San Antonio Independent School District Sports Complex where students play sports games on well-maintained tennis courts, baseball diamonds and football fields.
The river trail system runs along the border of Englewood with this access at Concepcion Park.
Walk down the San Antonio River Walk
Concepcion Park borders the neighborhood’s eastern edge. With 21 acres of open space and amenities, including a playground, swimming pool, picnic tables and baseball diamonds, it's where the community gathers to enjoy the outdoors. The park is named for the historical landmark just east of the park, Mission Concepcion, an 18th century stone church built in the Spanish Colonial style. It’s the oldest unrestored church in the United States. The park is also an access point for the San Antonio River Walk trail, a paved, riverside trail that’s perfect for biking, walking and jogging. It eventually connects with the renowned San Antonio River Walk in the city’s downtown, which attracts millions of visitors every year.
Englewood has easy access to Highway 90.
Driving down I-10 or Flores Street
Englewood sits at the intersection of Interstate 10 and Interstate 35, making for an easy, 5-mile commute to downtown destinations like the San Antonio River Walk. For those who prefer public transit, bus stops can be found along Flores Street and Theo Avenue.
