Connected downtown with The Westside Creeks Greenway

Memorial Heights is a small neighborhood on San Antonio's inner west side. The region is known for its rich Mexican heritage, honored through local food and festivals. "It's an older neighborhood where many residents are renting," says Juanita Ortega, Realtor with Premier Realty Group and city resident. Just 6 miles from downtown, the neighborhood is home to several community centers and a network of trails that connect downtown. "We have some awesome hiking trails you may not hear about, but they're great," she says. The local school district offers programs focused on college prep and dual language instruction, while the nearby library is a gathering spot for weekly clubs.

The park also has tennis courts, baseball diamonds, playgrounds with shaded canopies and an outdoor public swimming pool that opens in June. On the north side, the Memorial Library on Culebra Road is where residents meet for walking clubs, LEGO building sessions and painting classes throughout the week.

Organized by the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center, it's the longest-running event of its kind in the U.S. San Antonio's Día De Los Muertos Festival happens in late October, honoring the Day of the Dead through folk music, dancing and food. Dieciséis de Septiembre marks Mexico’s independence from Spain with a parade, filling Brazos and Guadalupe streets. It also hosts events year-round, including National Night Out in October.

Ranch-style houses on the Inner West Side

Memorial Heights is split into north and south sides by the Westside Creeks Greenway System, a network of trails that connect alongside several creeks. Homes were built between the 1950's and 1990's, although a few were constructed after 2010. They range from 760 to 1,400 square feet. Minimal traditional and ranch-style houses come with brick or clapboard siding and offer paved driveways with carports. Most neighbors have chain-link or wrought-iron fences with modest yards, and there are sidewalks. Many residences have been lived in for generations and need renovations and updates. Home prices can go between $110,000 to $165,000, and empty lots from $30,000 to over $240,000.
