The suburbs of South Central Texas

Mission Del Lago is among south San Antonio’s quickest-selling communities. Organized around a central golf course, this vibrant collection of new construction homes promises a wholesome environment in the outer reaches of the city. “It’s definitely a family-friendly community,” says Aaron Fernandez, real estate agent and owner of Millenium Realty, who has lived in the area for 35 years. “It has a golf course and a pool, and you’ll always see kids playing in the yards.” The neighborhood features a quality school system and is a pocket of secluded quiet surrounded by the Mitchell Lake Audubon Center, yet is close enough to San Antonio that residents need not sacrifice convenience. “It’s very close to shopping destinations, but it’s away from all the city congestion,” Fernandez adds. “It’s just a really nice area.”

Green spaces in Mission Del Lago

The Mission Del Lago community is centered around the namesake golf course. This 18-hole British-style links course is an inviting place for golfers of all levels, offering both public tee times and membership packages. “I know a lot of friends who go to that course regularly,” Fernandez says. Another popular amenity in the neighborhood is the Mission Del Lago pool and clubhouse, which features a catering kitchen, soccer field and a dog park. Mitchell Lake is situated on the western side of Mission Del Lago. The lake is part of the Mitchell Lake Audubon Center, a migratory bird sanctuary that features 7 miles of hiking trails and a nature center.

Home on the outskirts of Alamo City

Housing styles in the area fall mostly in the Modern Traditional style, with many featuring large garages and small lawns. “Homes are very new in Mission Del Lago,” Fernandez says. “They are a little tightly packed, but that creates a close, family-friendly community.” A single-story, three-bedroom house on the eastern edge of the community begins around $275,000, while a two-story, five-bedroom home tucked into a cul-de-sac fetches about $330,000. Most houses are set back from the winding suburban streets, and some have private backyard pools. All residents have access to the community pool and club house, maintained by the neighborhood’s Homeowners Association.
