Tree-covered neighborhood with access to shopping
Just north of Interstate 410, the aptly named Oak Hills neighborhood of San Antonio offers a slice of nature within the city. “It’s a charming old San Antonio neighborhood. The lots are large, and there is even wildlife coming through the area. We had a fox come up to the back door of the house one day,” says Debbie Snelling, a Realtor with Keller Williams Heritage who works in the area. “It offers skyline views of downtown San Antonio and gorgeous, 100-year-old trees.” While the neighborhood is full of nature and mature shade trees, the surrounding area is brimming with city life. Residents of Oak Hills are conveniently located near two major highways and have easy access to shopping, dining, parks and hospitals.
Ranch-style homes and condos
The winding, hilly streets of the neighborhood are lined with mature live oak trees, stretching their twisting limbs over the roads. Most homes in Oak Hills are ranch-style homes set on large, tree-covered lots. These include contemporary homes with large windows and flat roofs. Traditional ranch-style houses come with brick exteriors and hipped roofs. A few Spanish-style homes have white stucco siding and red tile roofs. Most homes in the neighborhood come with built-in garages. The southern part of the neighborhood doesn’t have sidewalks, but most streets in the northern part do. Homebuyers can also choose from condos in the area, offering a smaller, more affordable space. Two-bedroom condos typically cost around $200,000. Single-family homes start at around $400,000 for a three-bedroom house. Larger five-bedroom homes cost around $700,000.

There’s the Five Points area, which is about 6 minutes down Interstate 10,” she says. “You have Pappasito’s, Pappadeaux’s and everything at The Rim not far away.” Pappasito’s Cantina is a colorful regional chain serving classic Tex-Mex dishes, with a location just 3 miles from the neighborhood alongside I-10. About 9 miles up the highway is The Rim, a shopping center with popular stores like JCPenney, Bass Pro Shops and Burlington.
