Lackland AFB
Just across from Lackland AFB
Valley High North’s location has a few perks. This Westside community neighbors Lackland Air Force Base, one of San Antonio’s biggest employers. In addition to attracting service members from all over the country, its proximity to several shopping centers, sizable parks and tourist attractions is a major draw for locals trading in the noise of downtown for slower suburban living. “This area of town has seen such a big boom in the market recently,” says Vicki Collier, a Realtor at Keller Williams Legacy. “Really, it’s because people who work in Lakeland, especially the base, find it convenient to live close by, plus homes are more affordable than those closer to downtown.” As the community continues to see growth in housing inventory, chain restaurants and stores, there are still opportunities for relaxation in one of several swaths of green spaces tucked between its subdivisions, or at one of the many camping, fishing and hiking spots towards Medina Lake.

Valley High North's growing inventory
San Antonio’s Westside continues to see a skyrocketing inventory filled with a variety of architecture, and Valley High North is no exception. “There’s a bunch of new construction around this side of town,” Collier says. “It’s going to continue that way for a while, I think.” Recent prices range from $215,000 for a 1,500-square-foot brick ranch-style house to $300,000 for a brick New Traditional Craftsman with 3,000 square feet of living space. There are also apartments on the north side of the neighborhood near the park, and the housing units at Blue Skies of Texas, a retirement community open to civilian and military retirees.
Enjoy learning in the inspiring atmosphere of Allen Elementary.
Walk to school, or drive to UTSA
Northside Independent School District students can attend Valley Hi Elementary School and Rayburn Middle School, which earn B-minus and C-plus Niche scores, respectively. Jay High School, graded B-minus by Niche, offers students advanced placement and dual credit classes, along with industry-based certifications through Career Technical Education programs. For those interested in continuing their education after graduation, Northwest Vista College is roughly 10 miles away. The University of Texas at San Antonio is 20 miles away near The Shops at La Cantera off North Loop 1604.

Getting around Valley High North and Westside San Antonio
Public transportation is operated by VIA Metropolitan Transit and is available on major roads like Springvale Drive. Interstate 410 and Highway 90 provide routes around the rest of San Antonio – including the San Antonio International Airport, roughly 17 miles away. For immediate medical care, Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Center and Methodist Hospital are 4 and 11 miles away, respectively.
San Antonio Incredible Pizza
Go-karts and pizza or Chinese at Golden Wok
There’s a convenient H-E-B a mile away for groceries. However, locals have to drive a little ways for everything else, Collier adds. Westover Marketplace offers both Target and Walmart off Texas 151 Access Road. Sprinkled along I-10 are multiple Tex-Mex restaurants like Hacienda Vallarta Mexican Restaurant and El Tequila Mexican Restaurant & Bar. Located in the San Antonio Marketplace shopping center, San Antonio’s Incredible Pizza Company is well-known for its go-karts and games, as well as its buffet, and just across the highway is Golden Wok, a local staple for classic Chinese cuisine. Traders Village on Loop 410 is a sprawling, weekend-only flea market with more than just food and craft vendors. Inside its main building, there’s live entertainment and even a free dinosaur museum for the kids.
Pearsall Park
From Stablewood Farms Park to the expansive Pearsall Park
Locals can walk over to Stablewood Farms Park on the neighborhood’s northern side. Kids can enjoy the swings and playground, while adults can enjoy fishing for catfish at the pond. The park also offers outdoor exercise machines, a basketball court and walking trails throughout. A little over 5 miles away, the dog-friendly Heritage Duck Pond Park is a well-known spot to enjoy ducks wading in the pond, or turtles poking their head out of the water. The larger Pearsall Park, 4 miles away, consists of a disc golf course, skate park and obstacle course; however, its most popular feature is its covered playground and splash pad. Vast amounts of rural farmland, sprawling nature parks, shooting ranges and the Golf Club of Texas are 11 miles west on US-90. For a weekend of fishing, boating or camping, Medina Lake is 27 miles away.
SeaWorld
Learn about sea creatures by book or at the aquarium
There’s much to do around the Valley High North neighborhood. Booklovers can pick out their next read or participate in group events at Johnston Branch Library – the public library on Sun Valley Drive in La Ventana, the neighborhood south of Valley High North. On State Highway 151, the indoor amusement park, Main Event West, features a thrilling rope course and bowling lanes. Seven miles away, sea creatures await at SeaWorld San Antonio or the San Antonio Aquarium. For baseball enthusiasts, seeing a Missions game at Nelson W. Wolff Municipal Stadium is a highlight of life in Valley High North.
