Bordered by the Salado Creek to the west, Village North is an established neighborhood in the heart of San Antonio. It’s tucked into the corner of the Interstate 410 Loop between I-410 and Austin Highway. “Village North close to major freeways, with easy access to major employers in the area, including Rackspace Technology, H-E-B and hospitals like Northeast Baptist Hospital,” says Melissa Muse Wiggans, broker/owner of Real Estate Muses. “It’s also close to entertainment venues.”

The homes in the neighborhood are established, including ranch-style houses with side- or cross-gabled roofs, cross-gable contemporary-style houses and farmhouse-style homes with dormer windows. Recent closing sale prices range from $220,000 for a brick, ranch-style house with 1,400 square feet of living space to $290,000 for a completely renovated ranch-style house with 1,600 square feet of living space. There aren’t sidewalks on the residential streets, so you’ll probably want a car to get around, especially when it’s time to go shopping. Public transportation is available on the Northeast I-410 Loop, also called the I-410 Access Road, and Perrin Beitel.

Students can attend Serna Elementary School, Garner Middle School and MacArthur High School. MacArthur High is graded A-minus on Niche, and offers Advanced Placement, Dual Credit and Dual Enrollment classes. Students can also apply to participate in magnet programs like the Space and Engineering Technologies Academy (SETA). Next to Garner Middle is Tobin Library, where booklovers can pick out their next read.

When it’s time for grocery shopping, you’ll find H-E-B at Sunset Square Shopping Center on Austin Highway, near a Walmart Supercenter. Target and Ross are just past the Walmart, and there are also several specialty stores in the area, including La Michoacana Supermarket, the Korean Market and Seoul Asian Market and Cafe. At Momma Luv’s Soul & Caribbean Food you can get items like deep fried empanadas packed with Caribbean-flavored ground turkey and cheese, Southern fried chicken wings, seafood and various sides. Interested in a 30-and-up venue to hang out with friends? Visit Horizons and More for a night out of good drinks and live music.

Catch the latest blockbuster at Santikos Entertainment Galaxy. Lean back in a plush recliner and enjoy the movie on a big screen, complete with surround sound. While you’re waiting for your viewing, you can hang out at the bar or the arcade. Spend time outdoors by hopping onto the Salado Creek Greenway, a trail sandwiched between Salado Creek and R II M Academy & Driving Range. Golf lovers interested in improving their short game can sign up for a membership at R II M Academy.

While there isn’t a public park in walking distance, it’s not a long drive to nearby parks. The 90-acre John James Park is a 10-minute drive away, with a cushioned playground for the kids to enjoy. It has a long, winding walking trail that takes you through the woods, and fitness stations. In 15 minutes, you can reach beautiful Brackenridge Park, the second oldest public park in San Antonio.

In Village North, you can live in a centrally located, established neighborhood a short drive away from parks, major employers, shopping and entertainment venues.

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
