Suburban San Bernardino has entrepreneurial roots
Sloping down from mountain foothills, Arrowhead shelters a suburban community in view of one of the Inland Empire’s natural wonders. The rock formation bearing the same name was said to have healing properties and became a symbol of the city. But make no mistake, San Bernardino’s Arrowhead neighborhood is not to be confused with its northern neighbor Lake Arrowhead. The former takes its name from the historic Arrowhead Springs Hotel, a sprawling estate that played host to Hollywood elites, and later served as a naval hospital during the Second World War. As the home of McDonald’s founder Ray Kroc’s first location San Bernardino is known for its entrepreneurial spirit with many fast-food chains tracing their roots back here, with the north side Arrowhead neighborhood harnessing the resulting growth from innovation and the Inland Empire’s abundance of navel oranges. “A lot of really high-end entrepreneurial people started in San Bernardino,” said longtime business owner Dennis Craig. Craig, a member of the San Bernardino Chamber of Commerce has been in business in the area for close to 50 years, owning Arrowhead’s Red Fox Bar & Grill for more than eight years, and working in real estate. “At one point in 1976 San Bernardino was considered the all-American city,” Craig added. While the community has changed and demographics have shifted, Arrowpoint continues to offer a lot. he mostly residential community having easy access to the 210 freeway makes commuting a breeze and the San Bernardino National Forest is only a hop, skip and a jump away.

Spanish Revivals and low-lying Ranches
Arrowhead is mostly made up of single-family homes with Spanish Revival and ranch-style architecture prominent. Developers built the homes of Arrowhead intending to protect residents from the region's high temperatures; they favored building materials like stucco walling and designs emphasizing low-built structures to defend against overheating. Spanish-revival style homes are one such style, built with stucco- a material that keeps a house's interior cool during the day and then gently releases that trapped heat at night. Heat is transferred and dispersed throughout California ranch houses' spacious interiors and low-built designs. Home prices range between $350,000 to $800,000 with a median home price of $458,000.
