Highland history steeped into the hillsides
Set 6 miles northeast of downtown San Bernardino, suburban Belvedere — Italian for "fair sight" or "beautiful to see" — offers mountain views, next-door hiking trails and quick freeway access amid the chaparral-covered foothills of the San Bernardino Mountains. "There isn't much commercial development at all in North San Bernardino, but a lot of residents prefer that," says David Matta, a real estate agent based in San Bernardino County with Realty Masters and Associates. "It's peaceful and primarily residential, but Belvedere sits close enough to the 210 on-ramp that it's still convenient for commuting." The neighborhood's new and established homes are sprinkled throughout the hilly landscape. The San Manuel Band of Mission Indians runs its Yaamava’ Resort & Casino here, and the tribe's reservation borders the neighborhood on the east. Shopping and dining are found 2 miles south near the 210 freeway, which leads to major employment centers like Los Angeles, Riverside and cities in Orange County. A handful of parks are near Belvedere, while the San Bernardino National Forest and Lake Arrowhead are within 20 miles.
Newer and older homes amid the foothills of the San Bernardino Mountains
Classic 1960s-era ranch-style homes are set at the base of the foothills, while two-story Spanish-style new traditional homes built as recently as 2007 sit along the hillsides. Winding streets climb gently uphill, passing by tidy lawns and modest sidewalks. On Belvedere's northwest edge, Little Sand Canyon provides views of grassy slopes. Layouts for all these homes range from 1,100 to 2,500 square feet. Most of the older homes are ranch-style with stucco facades and shingled roofs, priced between $450,000 and $500,000, depending largely on their size and renovations. Newer homes come in eclectic styles like Spanish Revival, midcentury ranch and new traditional, priced between $600,000 and $650,000 depending on size and how high they're set in the hills; the higher the elevation, the higher the price.
Belvedere Elementary is in the neighborhood
Local kids can start school at Belvedere Elementary, which earns a B-minus from Niche, then continue to the C-plus rated Serrano Middle. San Gorgonio High earns a B, and offers an AVID program aimed at students seeking future careers in healthcare.
Outdoor excursions in mountain resort towns
Sterling Park offers a network of paved walking paths, while the mountains to the east and north offer dozens of miles of mixed-use trails, with panoramic views of the San Bernardino Valley. The 6-acre Harrison Canyon Park is 2 miles west of Belvedere, with two basketball courts, and the Arrowhead Country Club’s public 18-hole golf course is about 4 miles west. The recreation areas of Lake Arrowhead and Big Bear Lake are within 20 miles, and the Santa Ana River Trail is about 25 miles south. Lake Arrowhead invites residents to take guided paddleboarding tours around the 780-acre manmade lake, while Big Bear Lake offers an Alpine Pedal Path for bikers and hikers year-round.
A neighboring casino and a quick drive to the central business district
In Belvedere's eastern corner, the San Manuel tribe’s luxury Yaamava’ Resort & Casino was reopened by the Tribe in 2022, offering slots and gaming tables, a spa and several bars and restaurants. On Wednesdays and Thursdays, Yaamava's Serrano Buffet features all-you-can-eat lobster; the drink menu at 909 Sports Bar is filled with cocktails and imported and domestic brews. Two shopping centers are found 2 miles south, beside the 210 freeway: Sterling Plaza has a Cardenas Markets for groceries and Mexican staples, while Seeley Plaza offers a Regency movie theater, a Dollar Tree and a Super Penny Mart. About 6 miles west in downtown San Bernardino, local shops and restaurants line Highland Avenue and East Baseline Street; Little Dragon Chinese Cantonese Restaurant serves up comforting Asian dishes, while the fast-food menu at Baker's Drive-Thru features burgers, fries and shakes. Also downtown are three performing arts venues — California Theatre of the Performing Arts, The Garcia Center for the Arts and the San Bernardino Symphony.
Commuter convenience on the 210 and 215
The 210 freeway is 2 miles south and leads about 60 miles west to Los Angeles. Interstate 215 is about 4 miles west and leads about 50 miles southwest to northern Orange County. Most residents get around by car, as the closest Omnitrans bus stop is a mile outside of the neighborhood. The Dignity Health St. Bernardine Medical Center is about 2 miles northwest, and the Ontario International Airport is 25 miles west.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
