Nothing lone about this neighborhood
Lone Mountain may sound like a refuge for traveling desperadoes but it’s actually a college town neighborhood replete with incredible views. "It's largely residential and close to neighborhoods convenient for going out if you want to get a meal or a drink," says Bay Area native and Corcoran Icon Properties Realtor Tim Gullicksen. Lone Mountain has access to many restaurants, parks and exceptional schools. The University of San Francisco plays a role as well, being the focal point of the neighborhood and drawing in lots of foot traffic by the day. With so much here, one thing is for sure: there isn’t anything isolating about this neighborhood.

Lone Mountain homes
In Lone Mountain, a good number of houses are single-family homes, duplexes and converted townhomes. Some are painted in pale pastels and earthy tones, and many have titled or French-style mansard roofing. Properties tend to sell after 30 days. Prices begin around $800,000 for townhomes and condos while larger homes can cost between $1.4 million and $3 million. Gullicken says of the housing market, “Single-family homes have been selling really well. Prices have been rising and multiple offers get made. It's different from the condo market where you’re lucky to get even one offer. Condos have continued to soften in price because there’s way more supply than demand." He also talks about the street layouts. "Lone Mountain has a lot of cul-de-sacs. People love it because there’s no through traffic and it's quiet. It's one of the few neighborhoods where you’ll see kids playing in the street.” Lone Mountain homes once even attracted the eye of a famous psychedelic rock band. In the 1960s, the members of Jefferson Airplane would gather at their stately rehearsal space/ party pad at 2400 Fulton Street. Although it is now privately owned, the stately columned house remains, enshrining San Francisco’s role in the counterculture movement.
