Westwood Highlands is a neighborhood in the San Francisco Hills

Set into the hills beneath Mount Davidson, Westwood Highlands offers sweeping views of San Francisco and the Pacific Ocean. Developed in 1906, the neighborhood takes advantage of its hilly terrain, and houses hug the curving streets and face each other at street intersections to create a sense of community. "Westwood Highlands was designed to be walkable," says Tim Cannon, Broker and Owner with SanFranRealEstate.com. "You can walk to the shop. You can walk to wherever you need to go."

Westwood Highlands has houses with high elevation

Westwood Highlands' streets roll up and down San Francisco's hilly terrain. The northeastern tip of the neighborhood touches Mount Davidson, the highest natural point in the city. Palm, willow and California buckeye trees decorate the streets, while planters stuffed with flowers hang from house windows. "One of the attractive things about this neighborhood," says Cannon, "Is you have a front and a back yard and parking." Mediterranean, Tudor Revival and contemporary houses share the steep streets. Homes tend to have two to three bedrooms and sell for $1.2 million to $3.2 million. The homes at the top of the price range tend to have 3,000-plus square feet, and homes at the bottom of this range have 1,500 square feet. Homebuyers should know that Westwood Highlands scores a 2 out of 10 on the CAP Crime Index, lower than the national average of 4.

Mount Davidson is also home to one of San Francisco's landmarks—a 103-foot-tall cross that commemorates the victims of the 1915 Armenian Genocide. Golden Gate Park, one of the city's largest green spaces, is 4 miles north. Gardens, museums and lakes comprise the 1,017-acre park.
