Into the valley
Lucas Valley is cradled between Marin County's gently sloping hills. The neighborhood is known for its unique architecture, quiet atmosphere and community gathering spaces. Lucas Valley is also next to Skywalker Ranch, a property owned by Star Wars filmmaker George Lucas. Proximity to the ranch doesn't affect daily life in this neighborhood, but it is nice to be next to the source of the force.

Biking and hiking
Trails are minutes from plenty of the homes in Lucas Valley. "There are trails, biking, and hiking," says Renee Adelmann, owner of Bay Area Modern Real Estate and a Lucas Valley Resident. "It's a big part of life." Big Rock, the Terra Linda Divide and Lucas Valley Loop are popular hiking areas nearby. Cyclists frequently go up and down Lucas Valley Road, with some taking journeys of many miles. "Lots of people take their bikes all the way to the ocean," says Adelmann. "Lucas Valley Road is a big biking road."

Eichner Homes
Homes in Lucas Valley tend to go for between $1.6 million and $2.7 million, according to Adelmann. The neighborhood is known for a particular style of midcentury-modern ranch home called Eichler Homes, which tend to sell at the top of the price range. "It's the ultimate in California living. Everything is on one level surrounded by walls of glass," says Adelmann. The neighborhood was built as a tract, and the builder, Joseph Eichler, is one of the California developers credited with bringing this style of home to California.

The best spot in town
Big Rock Deli is the premier spot in town to grab a bite to eat and get together. "It's a pretty big hangout spot," says Adelmann. "They have a music venue in there. It's a big deal. Everyone loves it." Big Rock Deli has a casual vibe, with picnic tables and murals in the back, where people hang out and enjoy live music. It's also a go-to spot for groceries and beer. It's the only business in town. For more shopping and dining, most locals head to nearby Terra Linda, which has big box retailers and grocery stores. The town's lack of businesses is a feature of the neighborhood, not a bug. "You trade the shopping for the quiet," says Adelmann. "You can see the stars. It's very beautiful up there. There's so much greenery and nature up there."
