Urban Core Neighborhood in Santa Ana, California
Orange County 92703, 92704
Tucked among the small neighborhoods of west-central Santa Ana, Bella Vista offers slow-paced urban living. “It’s a centrally located, community-oriented neighborhood. People who move there tend to stay there,” says Noemi Romero, a Realtor with Seven Gables Real Estate.
Bella Vista is a diverse, welcoming community. “There are a lot of Latinos and Asians in the neighborhood,” says Romero. With three worship centers in and around Bella Vista, faith plays an important role in the community. The Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church serves many area residents and is a popular gathering place for those living in Bella Vista and surrounding neighborhoods. The Hoa Hoa Buddhist temple is located across the street from the church on the border with neighboring New Horizons. New Spirit Baptist Church is located on the west side of Bella Vista. Culture and community also is highlighted by the “Coyotl/Coyote” public art installation. The 14-foot steel sculpture stands proudly at the corner of Willits and Sullivan streets at the neighborhood’s northwest entrance. Part of the city’s beautification efforts, the project is inspired by the Nahuatl poetry of the Aztec ruler Nezahualcoyotl and dedicated to the late David Vazquez, a Santa Ana resident who devoted his life to preserving and teaching his native Nahuatl language.
The neighborhood is laid out in such a way that most of the streets are truncated and many end in cul-de-sacs, providing an additional level of peace and privacy. The typical residence is a midcentury, single-story home that offers a private driveway, attached garage and ample yard space. Trees and flowers are prominent in the many decorative yards that add to the neighborhood’s curb appeal. While traditional homes make up the bulk of the housing, larger contemporary custom homes also can be found. “The normal price range is between $725,000 and $850,000,” says Romero. “It’s more affordable than some of the other areas and historic neighborhoods in Santa Ana.”
Bella Vista’s youngest students can attend Monte Vista Elementary School, conveniently located in the neighborhood. Older students can attend Gerald P. Carr Intermediate School and Valley High School, which offers academies in subjects as varied as arts, engineering and new media. The Anteater Academy is a college preparatory program created in conjunction with the University of California-Irvine. The Lorin Griset Academy is a continuation high school located in the neighborhood.
The neighborhood is anchored by Jerome Park, providing residents easy access to an array of recreational amenities and social opportunities. Visitors can swim, play baseball or softball, exercise on a fitness court, run around the playground or take advantage of walking paths amid lush green spaces that include a community garden. The park also is home to a community center with a gym and the Southwest Senior Center, which offers residents 55 and over in-person dining and programs and classes encompassing art, fitness and technology.
Located in and around the neighborhood are dining options that include Restaurant Acapulco, a popular family-run chain known for its seafood, and Mariscos El Capitan, which offers a unique mixed menu of Latin-inspired favorites and sushi specialties. The Ranch Markets is a convenient option for full-service grocery shopping.
Quiet and convenient, Bella Vista can be your hidden gem.
