A historic Santa Ana neighborhood entwined with Mexican culture
In the early 1900s, Logan was one of the only neighborhoods in the United States where Mexican people could buy a house. Since then, the Santa Ana community has stayed resilient despite efforts to rezone and divide the neighborhood. Today it’s home to one of the most iconic Mexican restaurants in the city and a park emblematic of the Mexican American experience. “The main appeal to the neighborhood is the historical factor to it, and you're also in a first-time buyer market,” says Realtor Desi Reyes, who works with First Team Real Estate and has nearly four decades of experience in the area. Welcoming newcomers, Logan stays connected with its rich history — street signs were adorned with ceremonial toppers in March of 2024. These honor Logan residents who were also activists: Josephine “Chepa” Andrade and Lydia Romero-Cruz.

La Chiquita Restaurant and more Mexican food
Logan doesn’t have a bustling retail scene, but it’s home to local mainstay La Chiquita Restaurant, tucked away on the northern side of the neighborhood. “That restaurant is an iconic go-to place. It's pretty popular,” Reyes says. Open since 1950, the eatery is often described as a hidden gem, popular with Santa Ana locals and located in an area off the beaten path. It serves authentic Mexican classics like enchiladas, chile relleno and tamales in a casual setting. At Tacos y Birria Miguelito #2, patrons can expect more Mexican food, including birria consomé, from a takeout-only food truck. As for groceries, there’s Jimenez Ranch Market around half a mile west of the neighborhood. It also has a Mexican bakery.

Chepa's Park and nearby recreation
Chepa’s Park is right in the neighborhood and sometimes called Logan Park by the locals. It has a playground, a basketball court and picnic tables under shady trees. It's also a heritage site proposed for historic status as a symbol of Mexican American history. Resident Josephine “Chepa” Andrade fought against the city’s construction of a road that would split the neighborhood and created this park in protest. A monument to her stands in the front of the park. Half a mile east of Logan, French Park is a triangular pocket park with towering palm and shade trees where locals often walk their dogs. Cabrillo Park, 2 miles east of Logan, features many sports facilities: a ballfield, tennis courts and basketball courts. It also has a playground and a shaded area with outdoor exercise equipment.

North Santiago Street, the neighborhood’s western edge, has more businesses that add to the busy urban feel, and the southern part is dominated by the bustling Santa Ana Regional Transportation Center. The remainder of Logan is residential, with single-family homes on lots often landscaped with palm trees, boxwood bushes and fences. Many of the houses have driveways with detached garages, and there’s also street parking.
