Santa Anita Park offers suburban serenity and ample greenspace in the heart of Orange County. Bordered by the Santa Ana River in the east, the neighborhood is close to parks, schools and places to eat and shop. “It’s near Garden Grove and Little Saigon, and you’ve got freeway access right there,” says Realtor Hugo Pompa of Re/Max New Dimension.

Newcomers to Santa Anita Park will find a mix of single-story homes, including some that date back to the early and mid-20th century as well as the occasional newer home. Bungalows and ranch homes are the primary style, but you’ll also find some two-story Mission Revival styles, known for their tiled roofs and stucco walls. While lot sizes can run a bit small, there's still plenty of room for landscaping and gardening. Sidewalks and wide streets are dotted with trees, perfect for a stroll around the block or walking to nearby schools and restaurants. Prices typically range from around $500,000 to $800,000, putting homes at or below the city’s median. Small apartment buildings are also scattered throughout the neighborhood for those seeking a more affordable option.

Residents can enjoy several community parks, including Cesar Chavez Campesino Park, a 6-acre greenspace with playgrounds, sport courts and a grassy lawn that's perfect for afternoon activities with the kids. You might also visit the neighborhood’s namesake, Santa Anita Park, a 5-acre park where you can shoot hoops or kick the soccer ball around. Outdoor exercise is just a short walk, jog or bike ride away. Hop on the Santa Ana River Trail and you can follow the river as it twists and turns from Huntington Beach to the Orange County line. Meanwhile, avid golfers can tee up on the rolling fairways at Willowick Golf Course, an 18-hole public golf course. Known locally as "The Wick," it's the oldest public golf course in Orange County.

Young students can attend Russell Elementary School, which is centrally located in the neighborhood and walking distance from many homes. Russell Elementary is a great place for bilingual students — it offers a dual immersion language program for students who want to speak, listen, read and write in English and Spanish. Upperclassmen attend nearby Fitz Intermediate School and Los Amigos High School, both of which hold “B” ratings from Niche, an online school review site.

For groceries, dining and other necessities, you’ll find everything you need at the intersection of McFadden Avenue and Harbor Boulevard. There, you can shop for groceries at Walmart, Northgate Market or El Super #6, a grocer specializing in Central American goods. Picking a restaurant might be difficult — the area features plenty of popular spots, including Mexican, Thai and Vietnamese options. Casa Oaxaca is the perfect spot to try some authentic Mexican cuisine, while those in the mood for something a bit heartier might like the brothy Vietnamese soups at Pho Cali. The neighborhood is also just a stone’s throw from Little Saigon, where you’ll find a concentration of Vietnamese businesses, restaurants and culture.

When it comes time to commute, you’ll have easy access to Interstate 405 and Route 22. Those will take you north to Anaheim, south to Irvine and anywhere else in Orange County you need to go. With easy access to greater LA, Anaheim and the beach, Santa Anita Park offers an Orange County lifestyle at a competitive price.

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
