A conveniently located neighborhood combines the old and the new
East Savannah, cradled between the city’s historic district on the west and the Wilmington River on the east, is an eclectic neighborhood that blends the established and the contemporary. Not far from a collection of homes built right after World War II and adjacent to the industrial sector along the Savannah River that was the foundation of the city’s growth, state-of-the art developments such as Upper East River at Eastern Wharf perfectly encapsulate the neighborhood’s duality. “A lot of people visit Savannah and love the historic look,” says Heather Booth, a Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Bay Street Realty Group involved in selling Upper East River properties. The development's collection of townhouses and other multi-family residences are designed in historic Savannah style yet offer all the amenities of modern city living, including urban walkability. “This is a juxtaposition that is the best of both worlds,” adds Booth. “You have access to everything historic, but you turn a key and it’s maintenance-free.” On the east side, charter boats dot the Wilmington River, a reminder that the water has been intimately connected to Savannah’s lifestyle since its earliest days.
Established homes and contemporary developments provide a unique mix
Renovated bungalow-style homes stand out among the traditional housing built during the first half of the 20th century, while newer housing built decades later includes custom homes featuring modern amenities such as private driveways and attached garages. In addition to multi-family housing development on the west side, there are a pair of appealing developments on the east side. Emerald Pointe is an exclusive, amenities-filled neighborhood of contemporary custom homes designed in Victorian and other classic architectural styles. The Cottages at Causton Bluff is a small subdivision of luxury residences that includes East Savannah’s highest-priced homes overlooking the Wilmington River. Given the wide variety of housing, prices range from under $100,000 for the most established of the smaller homes to $1.5 million-plus for the largest waterfront properties.

Popular nearby historic district features an array of eateries
Adjacent to the neighborhood’s west side is the Savannah Riverwalk, a convenient gateway to the array of restaurants that populate the historic district. “The Olde Pink House and Vic’s On The River are very popular in Savannah,” says Booth. Both are highly rated Southern-style eateries. In addition, the nearby Pirates' House is a well-known restaurant that dates to 1753, when it opened as an inn for seafarers. “The historic district is one of the largest in the country,” says Booth. “People love the European style of it, where you can walk everywhere. Really, it was only a matter of time before the areas around it started being developed.” Truman Parkway, which runs along the western edge of the neighborhood, leads directly to a concentration of retail centers less than 3 miles away. Target, Home Depot, Kroger and Whole Foods are among the available stores.
Savannah Early College High School is a public school in Savannah, GA.

The Savannah-Chatham County Public School System is comprised of 59 schools and learning centers and is the largest employer in the county, with more than 5,600 people working for it.
Private golf club, river access featured among recreational options
The neighborhood also is home to the Savannah Golf Club, which dates to the mid-18th century but today offers its members an 18-hole championship course that winds its way for almost 6,500 yards among old oaks, Civil War-era earth berms, wild roses and azaleas. Additional amenities include a pool complex and year-round tennis and pickleball programs. Retha Mae McCoy Park is a traditional neighborhood green space where visitors can stay active on ballfields, basketball and tennis courts and a playground. About 2 miles away across the Wilmington River, residents can launch a boat from Frank W. Spencer Park. The conveniently located spot allows boaters quick access to the Wilmington and Savannah rivers, both of which lead to the nearby Atlantic coast and the popular beach on Tybee Island.

Proximity to main roadways allows for travel to points throughout the city
Truman Parkway turns west past the retail centers and is one of the city’s most convenient thoroughfares. “It will take you to points all around Savannah in minutes,” says Kate Fowler, a Realtor with Century 21 Results. President Street separates the neighborhood’s residential areas from the industrial sector. It becomes the Islands Expressway just before it crosses the Wilmington River and provides a direct route to Tybee Island. Pubic transportation is readily available throughout the neighborhood, with Chatham Area Transit bus stops dotting Pennsylvania Avenue and Gwinnett Street, the latter of which leads directly to the heart of the historic district.
East Savannah residents can utilize the Truman Parkway for quick access to surrounding areas.
