Secluded streets help make Oakhurst a standout
Take a stroll along Oakhurst’s partially shaded streets, and one of the area’s chief appeals will begin to become clear. The residential blocks around this neighborhood are known for their tranquility, a benefit of their detachment from the main roads. Oakhurst offers residents a measure of solitude, yet it maintains convenient proximity to the amenities that line the surrounding thoroughfares. “It’s just quieter streets,” says local Realtor Meghan Littlefield of Seabolt Real Estate. “It’s really one or two ways in, one or two ways out.”
Midcentury-made homes still standing strong
Oakhurst’s streets have a consistent look, filled with an assortment of homes built from the 1950s to the 1970s. The majority of the houses in Oakhurst are single-story ranchers with brick exteriors that have stood the test of time. These homes vary in size, though, anywhere from about 1,100 square feet to 1,900 square feet. Lots around Oakhurst are compact — usually between one-tenth of an acre and one-fifth of an acre — but still leave enough room for front and back lawn space. A lot of the lawns in the neighborhood are dotted with mature trees, shading some of the peaceful streets that run in front of them. “It’s off a busier road, so you’re not going through that neighborhood unless you’re trying to go through that neighborhood,” says Littlefield, who attended the Savannah College of Art and Design and has been selling in the area for more than two years, after a 20-year career in hospitality. “There are no drive-throughs in that area.” Price tags in Oakhurst are most often in the $100,000s and $200,000s.
