Known for its proximity to New York City but loved for its close-knit community, Scarsdale is a suburban town in Westchester County that's about an hour from Manhattan. East Heathcote, called Heathcote by locals, surrounds Heathcote Elementary School and borders the Scarsdale Pool Complex and Saxon Woods Golf Course. “The shopping center is called the Golden Horseshoe,” says Weissman. “Which has a variety of restaurants, drugstores, a Starbucks, a boutique workout gym and clothing stores.” Nearby, Metro Deli & Catering serves kosher deli meals and classic Greek dishes. Just across the street, Balducci’s has groceries, a deli and a bakery. Seasons, within the Golden Horseshoe Shopping Center, also carries groceries. Downtown Scarsdale, 2 miles away, has other shopping and dining options, such as Martine’s Fine Bake Shoppe, a locally owned French bakery, and Moscato, an upscale Italian restaurant.

Pool complexes near East Heathcote
The 7.6-acre Scarsdale Pool Complex is open to all member residents from May to September. The complex has four pools, including a kiddie pool, a concession stand, a playground and courts for basketball and volleyball. Crossway Field is a gathering place for local leagues and consists of several soccer and baseball fields. Next door to the pool complex, Saxon Woods Golf Course is an 18-hole course in the larger Saxon Woods Park. Once the site of a sawmill, the 700-acre property now hosts an extensive trail system and seasonal amenities, such as mini golf and a pool.

Commuters take Hutchinson River Parkway and continue north along state Route 9A to reach New York City, 27 miles away. The Scarsdale train station is 2 miles away and can be reached by bus in around 14 minutes. Commuters ride the Harlem line to Grand Central Terminal in under an hour. Westchester County Airport is 11 miles north along Hutchinson River Parkway, and 20 miles in the opposite direction is LaGuardia Airport. White Plains Hospital is 4 miles away for emergency services.
