Proximity to the Hartsdale and Scarsdale train stations makes Fox Meadow, 28 miles from New York City, a desirable location for those looking to get out of the hustle and bustle of city living. “What attracted me to Fox Meadow is that I love that I can walk to the train,” says Bela Sheth, a resident and broker for 26 years with Houlihan Lawrence. “And that kids can walk to the village and school.” Residents stay in Fox Meadows for the sense of community, and many who grew up there return to the area. “My daughter will eventually move back,” says Sheth. “A lot of people who went to Scarsdale High School come back.” The Fox Meadow Neighborhood Association keeps neighbors connected and hosts local events, such as coffee get-togethers to welcome new families.

Mix of revival and new traditional housing styles near local schools

Winding roadways circle Fox Meadow Elementary School and Scarsdale High School, lined with manicured lawns and thick foliage. Many homes have large enough backyards to house in-ground pools and gardens. Most homes are in older revival styles such as French Influenced, Colonial Revival and Tudor Revival; there are a few 1950s-style split-levels and recently built homes in the new traditional style. Home prices range from $2.8 million to $4.5 million.

Students may walk to elementary school and high school

Scarsdale Public Schools receives an A-plus from Niche and is listed as the best school district in Westchester County. Elementary-aged students in the area attend Fox Meadow Elementary School and later commute to Scarsdale Middle School, both of which receive A-plus grades. Most high schoolers in the area may walk to classes at Scarsdale High School, which also gets an A-plus rating. Scarsdale High School has a student newspaper and podcast, Maroon, that keeps the school updated on community happenings.

Commuters use Hartsdale and Scarsdale train stations

The closest train station is Hartsdale, which lies just outside the neighborhood and takes commuters into New York City on the Harlem line in under an hour. While Scarsdale station is just under 2 miles away, it takes 30 minutes to reach Grand Central Terminal on the Harlem line. Those commuting via car take the Bronx River Parkway, which connects to New York 9A, leading into the city in just under an hour, depending on traffic. For transport in and around Scarsdale, many take the Bee-Line buses, which stop on most major roadways. Hutchinson River Parkway leads 22 miles to LaGuardia Airport. Emergency room services are 3 miles away at White Plains Hospital.

Shopping and dining at Boniface Circle

A commercial area, Boniface Circle, 2 miles away, hosts restaurants and retailers. Before catching the train, commuters can grab a toasted bagel from The Bagel Emporium of Scarsdale and a coffee from Martine’s Fine Bake Shoppe. In the afternoon and during breaks, high school students can be seen at Giannoni’s Deli for sandwiches. Italian Village Pizzeria & Restaurant is a popular dinner locale in the Golden Horseshoe Shopping Center, 2 miles away. Another 2 miles south is Hutchinson Farms for fresh fruits and vegetables. Groceries are available at New York-chain supermarket DeCicco & Sons down the road.

Park and pond attached to Scarsdale Public Library

Fox Meadow Park is primarily an open green space with athletic fields and a playground bordered by a wooded area. There are also several hard-top tennis courts nearby. The Scarsdale Public Library has the Audrey Hochberg Pond Preserve, an adjoining 10-acre green space. Patrons may read in the gazebo beside the pond or stretch their legs on the walking path.

Fox Meadow Neighborhood Association Events

The Fox Meadow Neighborhood Association helps bring the community together with yearly events. In November, the annual Fox Trot is a walking event for neighbors to explore their community. During the spring, the association hosts playground meetups and cocktail parties. To become a member of the association, households must pay membership fees ranging from $75 to $150.The Scarsdale Public Library hosts regular events such as Storytimes and book clubs. Local religious institutions such as Shaarei Tikvah Scarsdale, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Westchester Garden Church and others host services and holiday celebrations.
