Some neighborhoods are well-established as prime homeowning destinations. Others need someone to believe in them and are just waiting for the push to get them started toward revival. The Sunset Acre/Garden Valley/Morningside neighborhood of Shreveport is one of these places. Seemingly primed for revitalization, the area is minutes away from the Shreveport Regional Airport, Independence Stadium, grocery stores and restaurants. Mansfield Road also runs north to south through the area, making commuting an easy task. There are also bus stops along Hollywood Avenue to make running errands that much simpler. More urban than suburban, Sunset Acres offers homeowners a place to rest their heads while investing in and shaping their community.
Homebuyers bring renovation dreams to small cottages
Homes in the area were built in the 1950s, ‘60s, and ‘70s, and today, they are primarily investment properties or small starter houses just waiting for some TLC. Prices range from $15,000 for a two-bedroom cottage needing renovations to $140,000 for a ranch-style home with four bedrooms. Many of the residences feature ranch styles, but there are also bungalows and cottages, along with the odd cabin or two. Some homes are built on slabs while others rest on raised foundations. The area has many mature trees and is quite affordable when compared to other parts of the city.

Airplanes fly overhead from Shreveport Regional Airport
Near the neighborhood lies the Shreveport Regional Airport. Only five minutes from the downtown business district, the airport wasn’t always located where it is now. In fact, the original airfield here was right in the middle of downtown from 1931 to 1952. After World War II, air travel was in high demand. The downtown airport needed to be expanded, but land limitations forced a move to a larger plot where longer runways could be built. The new terminal opened in 1952 with airline ticket counters, offices, a restaurant, and viewing decks. The commercial airfield expanded for the first time in 1971 with a new terminal, administrative building, and connector bridges. Today, the airport is served by four major airlines which fly to seven major hub cities.
