Sunny suburb in Sierra Vista, San Pedro Valley
Pueblo del Sol translates to “village of the sun,” but most locals just call it PDS. It gets its name from the roughly 300 days of sunshine it experiences every year, in the heart of the Chihuahuan Desert and the San Pedro Valley. On the east side of Sierra Vista, this suburb has close-together homes and abundant cul-de-sacs, and it’s close to major shopping and dining hubs. “It’s in town and more of a housing tract community, whereas out in the country, you’re farther away with bigger lots,” says Brenda Petitt, a Sierra Vista local and a Realtor Associate with Haymore Real Estate since 2013. “It’s also closer to Fort Huachuca, so a lot of military people live here.” Retirees, outdoorsmen and others are attracted to the community’s sunny weather and nearby mountains. The Mule Range, to the east, is visible from most places in the neighborhood, and the Huachuca Range is just west.
Pueblo Del Sol is a tranquil community that is also close to amenities and activities.

Fun in the Huachuca Range and nearby playgrounds
The Huachuca Mountains are about 10 miles west of the neighborhood, and they’re a popular spot for recreation. Hiking trails cover this steep range, and elevated campgrounds provide views of the San Pedro Valley below. Huachuca Peak is the closest summit to the neighborhood, clocking in at 8,400 feet, but neighboring Miller and Carr peaks go above 9,200 feet. Mountain View Golf Course is in the eastern foothills of this range, on the grounds of Fort Huachuca. This 18-hole course is open to the public, and as the name suggests, it has fairway views of the mountains. While these recreation spaces are a short drive from Pueblo del Sol, neighborhood parks are even closer. Purple Heart Park is next to Pueblo Del Sol Elementary, and it has a covered picnic area and playground. Chaparral Village Park also has a playground, in addition to a multiuse field and basketball court.

Doc’s Watering Hole for a line dance, Vinny’s for a slice
Among the many restaurants on state Route 92, Doc’s Watering Hole is relatively new to the scene. Victoria Holts and Aaron Hennequin, a married pair of U.S. Army veterans, started this bar and line dancing spot in 2022, and it’s been a local favorite ever since. “We named it Doc’s because we both have our doctorates. I’m doc one, and he’s doc two,” Holts says. “We’ve won awards in town for our burgers and wings, but I like the artichoke and white bean sandwich. We have a lot of vegetarian and vegan options.” This space hosts free line dancing lessons on Thursdays, live music on Sundays, karaoke on Tuesdays and many other rotating events. In the same parking lot, Vinny’s New York Pizza has been serving pies since the 1990s. The Mall at Sierra Vista has more restaurants and retailers such as Best Buy and Hibbett Sports. Just north, Coronado Village Shopping Center has Target, Walmart and other department stores. Food City and Safeway offer grocery options.
