West Simsbury offers a unique blend of suburban, natural beauty, and community amenities.
Hidden in the Connecticut hills
Tucked into the hills north of Hartford, this Connecticut suburb gives residents plenty of room to spread out. “West Simsbury is a village within Simsbury. It’s part of the town, but a little bit farther out,” says David Brooke, Principal at Brooke Team at eXp Realty. “It’s like being in the back country in Greenwich, but at prices that people like you and I can afford.” West Simsbury is a top draw for nature enthusiasts, with many hiking trails, parks, and other outdoor recreational options. Simsbury also boasts a top-notch school district, making it even more appealing to young families.
Colonial-inspired homes on wooded lots
West Simsbury homebuyers can choose from a variety of architectural styles. Modest-sized ranches and split levels might be priced in the $300,000 range, while larger new builds can cost over $1 million. Although most homes were built within the last 60 years, they tend to favor classical styles, with the Colonial influence being particularly heavy. Properties are generous in size, with many featuring huge yards and wooded areas. “That area is more private, with larger homes on two-plus acres,” Brooke says. “Some people won’t live there because of the challenging commute, but it’s got great proximity to the farms and parks.” Families with young kids should note that while this is a predominantly residential area, the narrow streets and lack of sidewalks make it tough to navigate on foot.
Homes in West Simsbury often come with larger lots, offering privacy and space.

The facilities include a pool, an 18-hole golf course, tennis courts, an outdoor skating rink and a 2.5-mile fitness trail.

The fare at Farms Village
Farms Village Road carves through the center of West Simsbury. This is where residents enjoy locally churned ice cream from Tulmeadow Farm Store and sushi from Oishi Japanese Cuisine. Creative breakfast and lunch concoctions are on the menu at Pop Over Eatery on Hopmeadow Street. South toward Route 202, Stop & Shop stocks groceries and other essentials. There are also plenty of chain stores and restaurants along this corridor.

September in Simsbury
When September rolls around, a couple of annual events draw visitors to Simsbury. Septemberfest takes place on the first non-holiday weekend and includes hot-air balloon rides, live music and fireworks. At the Simsbury Fly-In & Car Show, antique cars line Wolcott Road while small aircraft perform dizzying stunts in the skies overhead.

From home to Hartford
Most West Simsbury residents commute to Hartford, which is 13 miles southeast. The commute takes about 30 minutes. West Hartford is a bit closer, so commuters to that area will have a shorter drive, roughly 20 to 25 minutes. The local bus line, CTtransit, runs buses to Hartford, Bristol, Westfield, West Hartford and various Simsbury locations.

Frolic at Flamig Farm
With the word “EGGS” spelled backward in giant white letters against a fire-engine-red barn, Flamig Farm is a local landmark. This working farm rambles alongside West Mountain Road, offering pony rides, summer camp programs and a petting zoo. “Kids can feed the ducks and chickens,” Brooke says. It’s also a scenic destination for weddings and other celebrations.
