A peaceful, outdoorsy type of neighborhood
Established in 1864, the Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, borough of Slatington has retained its old-timey feel. The 4,000 residents who call Slatington home enjoy the community’s walkable Main Street peppered with mom-and-pop businesses and the slower-paced lifestyle of a bygone era. “It is like stepping back in time a little bit. It’s maybe a two-stoplight town,” says Woody Howell, the owner and broker of Real Estate of America, who’s been selling homes here for 30 years. “It’s a very scenic area. The Lehigh River is there. There are hiking and biking trails that are very popular. It’s a peaceful, outdoorsy type of place.”
Homes that are historic, new or somewhere in between
Those looking to move to Slatington will primarily find homes built from the late 1800s to the modern day. They come in a range of styles including duplexes, townhomes, and Victorians with ornate trim. Properties typically rest along sidewalk-lined streets with compact manicured lots. A cozy two-bedroom, one-bath costs around $200,000, while a more spacious four-bedroom, two-bath could be found in the high-$200,000s. “The average days-on-market used to be seven days and now it’s 18 days, which is still pretty good. Homes are selling for over asking price,” Howell says. “One of our biggest issues here is that we have a low inventory and that has gotten worse with the interest rates. People just want to stay where they are.”
